Set in the Vale of York near the market town of Thirsk (Darrowby in the James Herriot books), Otterington Park is a place to please all creatures great and small. Grownups can angle for a spot to land several fishy types at the park’s private one-acre fishing lake, while tiddlers can caper along the nature walks laid on exclusively for Otterington Park fry of all sizes. Then try a tramp along the stream or breaking out the hard-boiled eggs in one of the picnic areas: the park covers 25 acres so even solitary types should be able to find a secluded spot to sink down in.

Pitches here are on gravel, with electric hook-up and for tourers and motorhomes only; the park is unable to accept tents. But if you haven’t yet managed to get your own house on four wheels, Otterington has three camping pods available too with all mod cons: sheep wool insulated and double-glazed for warmth in winter, a foil layer under the roof so no sizzling in summer, and even a specially designed roofing material to cut down the noise of heavy rain.

Podders have access to covered washing up areas exclusively for their use, and there’s a heated amenity block with ladies’ and gents’ loos, shower rooms, a bathroom and disabled facilities. There’s also a parent and baby washroom, launderette and a play area for the tadpoles on site.

Terms and conditions

Please read the park terms and conditions below and the terms and conditions.

We would like to remind all dog owners that dogs should be kept under control on a short lead whilst on the caravan park or nature walks. No dogs in the play area please, nor round the fishing lake. A dog exercise area is available at the entrance to the park. Dog dirt must be picked up and placed in the rubbish bins.

It is the responsibility of parents to supervise their own children in the play area, and elsewhere on the park. Children under the age of 18 must not be allowed to go round the nature walks or to the fishing lake unless accompanied by a responsible adult. We do ask that children under the age of 13 are not allowed to use the toilet block and showers/bath without a responsible adult accompanying them.

The play area is not to be used between sunset/dusk and 8.00 am. No dogs are permitted in this area.

Only normal domestic refuse should be placed in our rubbish skip. Please make use of our recycling bins for newspapers, tins, and glass.

We draw particular attention to the fact that the whole amenity block, including shower rooms, toilets, reception and laundry, is a no-smoking area and ask all visitors to comply.

Damage to the wildlife or their habitats is illegal and will result in persons responsible being evicted from the park and being prosecuted.

Gazebos and pup tents are not allowed due to fire regulations.

Windbreaks may be used whilst a caravan is occupied.
