There had been a mix up with our booking, but the owners quickly found us a pitch and got his tractor to pitch our caravan up and set it up for us even getting an aerial for our tv. The site was excellent with clean, well maintained shower block but the friendly helpful owners made it more welcoming.

Lovely little site, well managed with spotless facilities. When our motorhome got stuck on the way out the manager couldn’t have been more helpful. The fact that the Bridge Inn, with decent beer and good bar food, is just around the corner was a bonus. Highly recommended, both for beautiful surroundings and good facilities.

Local attractions

Pateley Bridge is where the Nidderdale Way starts and ends. There are walking, cycling and horse riding trails along its 53-mile stretch, you can also lead a llama through the Dales by contacting the local company. In the town of Pateley Bridge you'll find England’s oldest sweet shop but also the Nidderdale Museum in the old workhouse.

As it’s Yorkshire, there are historical highlights aplenty: Ripley Castle and its "Capability Brown"- landscaped gardens, the twelfth century Augustinian Bolton Abbey with nature trails winding through Strid Wood where you can find the hunting lodge of Barden Tower; there's also the dungeon depths of medieval Skipton Castle to explore and that's just to name a few. The stately homes of Newby Hall and Harewood House both have extensive gardens to wander as well as the usual ornate interiors. You can absolutely not miss Yorkshire’s first World Heritage Site, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, one of the biggest abbey ruins in England, 500 deer roam in the splendid medieval deer park.

The Yorkshire is also an area with no shortage of gorges, caves and geological features. There’s also the 80ft-deep How Stean Gorge with its roaring waterfalls and Tom Taylor’s Cave; the gorge itself can be explored via the network of footbridges and paths. Malham Cove and Tarn takes in a huge limestone cliff, the Gordale Scar gorge and the Malham Tarn nature reserve – there are several other nature reserves around too such as Gouthwaite Reservoir and Roundhill Reservoir.

For a well-deserved rest and pick-me-up, head to Harrogate to sup some spa waters and mash a tea at Betty’s Tea Rooms. Leeds and York are also both within driving distance for shopping, seeing the sights and taking in a show.
