General
You’re not quite right on the sands at Reighton Sands Holiday Park, but almost - the site’s splendid setting atop the verdant cliffs near Filey makes the most of the views of the seductive sandy bay below.
Whether you’re into surfing or sand castle-building, coastal walks or kite-flying, with direct access to the beach, everything is only a stroll away. Keep walking and you’ll hit the glorious Flamborough Head, with its landmark lighthouse and colonies of rare sea birds.
Otherwise, you could hire a buggy and some clubs and hit the park’s lush nine-hole golf course, try out a new sport such as archery or fencing, go for a wallow in the brand new Lazy River and indoor pool, or simply relax with a drink and some grub on the terrace of the Mash and Barrel lounge bar and café.
Reighton Sands Holiday Park is right on the money when it comes to keeping little campers entertained, too: the free kids’ clubs run by Haven’s talented FunStars could have them cheerleading, orienteering or even better, learning how to cook you lunch; the park also has a soft play area, climbing wall, mini ten-pin bowling, amusements and family entertainment, including pantomimes, fancy dress balls and fun shows with Rory the Tiger and the like. Young Bear Grylls in the making can get stuck into the wildly entertaining Nature Rockz activities run at the park, too. From bushcraft to building shelters and making campfires, pond dipping to beachcombing or even bug safaris - kids will be spoilt for choice. Most activities are free but a small charge may apply to some.
The entertainment continues into the evening with live bands, cabaret and Dad-dancing for the grownups. Right on!

Local attractions
Funtastic Filey is only five miles from Reighton Sands Holiday Park and is buzzing with seaside amusements, the bird gardens and animal park, and more.
Head along the coast and you can step out in the classic seaside resort of Scarborough, or visit Whitby to set sail in a replica of Captain Cook’s ship, HMS Endeavour, tramp around the dramatic abbey ruins on the clifftop, and join the queue for fabulous fish and chips at the famous Magpie Café. If you have time, lose yourselves in the atmospheric alleyways of neighbouring Robin Hood’s Bay, a picturesque village tumbling down towards the sea.
Alternatively, if you head inland, you can explore the delights of the Yorkshire Moors via the Pickering steam railway, or go rambling through heather-clad heights and woodland vales, stopping off at the pretty stone villages dotted around the countryside, well-furbished with glorious traditional pubs.
Your little sweeties will love a trip to the John Bull Rock Factory, near Bridlington; they can get stuck into making their own treats and there’s also a candy-themed soft play area next door.
The fabulous city of York is bursting with history, culture and commerce and well worth a day trip; gorgeously gothic York Minster and the Jorvik Viking Centre top of many tourists’ list of places to visit.
For theme parks, Flamingo Land, 32 miles from Reighton Sands, is probably the most popular in the region, with a good zoo included in the entry fee, plus loads of family rides and rollercoasters.
Finally, there are some great museums in the countryside too: the flying machines of the Yorkshire Air Museum, near York, and Eden Camp, near Malton, where you can immerse yourself in reconstructions of life during the Second World War, within the huts of an original prisoner of war camp.
