General

  • Family-focused holiday park in a scenic countryside setting
  • On-site fishing lake and loads of activities to entertain the kids
  • Close to plenty to do on the East and North Yorkshire coasts

Skip to see – and stay at – this holiday park on the sandy East Yorkshire coast: it's likely you’ll love it.

Skipsea Sands Holiday Park is in a scenic countryside and village setting near Driffield, but is only a couple of miles from the stretch of Yorkshire coastline from Flamborough Head to Spurn Point – with Bridlington in between – and within easy driving distance of several sandy beaches. It has its own fishing lake and lands lots of activities and entertainment to float any individual boat.

Guests can be occupied day and night should they so wish: kids can work off energy at the adventure playground, chase a shuttlecock/football or rollerblade around the massive sports hall, before cooling off at the waterjets of the indoor pool, or going along to one of the many organised activities for all ages such as dance, football, water games and a club for the under-fives.

There’s a small charge to use the sports hall and for a couple of other activities like ten pin bowling and the intriguingly named aqua jets, but all other activities are free.

Elsewhere on site, bigger guests have access to the well-equipped park gym, while all ages can pile into the Pavilion family clubhouse for drinks and snacks; there are two other bars on site as well as The Sands diner with restaurant and takeaway.

Evenings are properly covered with a range of glitzy entertainment from live music to family shows.

Prefer to breeze gently through your hols rather than get involved in too much activity? A Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are on site to bubble placidly at too, all included in your pitch fee.

This site is a member of Parkdean Resorts group.

It did everything for my kids and we did not need to leave the site. 28/10/2017

The pool, be prepared for queues, kids play park and football area, be prepared for ignorant dog owners walking unleashed animals and allowing them to soil the kids play area even though signs state no dogs allowed and dogs must be short leashed all the time and it’s next to an allocated dog exercise area next to play area. The kids club is great, both my kids had a great time and the variety of things to do helped.
Most of the staff are outstanding.

    Disliked:

Lack of customer care at reception, no duty of care to customers, lack of health and safety, safeguarding does not exist, badly maintained pitches, cold showers, disgusting seasonal pitch bans and areas, club toilets always disgusting and smelly. We both had accidents and nothing was done about it and when I’ve complained I’ve been told it will take up to 14 days for a reply! Smokers at every doors past the no smoking signs meaning you have to walk through clouds of secondary smoke to enter bars as no actual allocated smoking area.

Saturday nights entertainment was quite good fun .
Showers and toilets in the touring area were clean and warm .
Fully serviced pitch was good but for the ground being so bad.

    Disliked:

Tiny hard standing platforms in a bog of mud and tyre tracks, no chance of putting awning up due to the ground being so bad . Park warden said the pitch we were on shouldn’t have been open. ( double hard standing pitches looked ok though)
Restaurant was expensive and didn’t include any kind of veg with meals unless ordered as a side . (A portion of peas with kids meal wouldn’t break the bank.)

Beautiful site with lots to do with little ones. We had our two year old who loved the day/evening entertainment staff very friendly on site and children's entertainers were amazing. Characters spent a lot of time with the children which my little one thought was amazing too. Toilets clean and site very tidy. We will definitely be visiting again with our tourer.

    Disliked:

Muddy pitches but what do you expect in late September, asked to move and it was not a problem at all extremely helpful staff on reception.

The site was great it was our 1st time camping together as a family. The site was excellently priced and offered very good facilities so felt it was great value for money. The facilities were generally very clean, the swimming pool was a good size and again kept very clean. Evening entertainment was great for the family, the kids loved it and right next door there's a little arcade area for the kids/adults to have a play in. Next to where the touring pitches are theres a lovely little play area for the kids, we came with some friends and all our children enjoyed it. We only stayed for a weekend so didn't get to check out all the facilities but will be sure to explore more the next time we go.

    Disliked:

My only real dislike would be the showers as they were very cold in the swimming pool area and shower block. The other issue was in the shower cubical in the shower blocks the changing area had an extra drain in and where this was there was a dip in the floor that gathered dirty cold water.

Local attractions

The East and North Yorkshire coast is most visitors’ first stop, from the gannets gabbing at Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs to the seaside shenanigans and surfing of Scarborough.

If it’s raining, take the kids to Terror Tower: its two buildings and three floors’ worthy of grisly special effects should silence even the most horrifying sprog.

Flit to fab Filey for five miles of beach, its funfair and the start of the Cleveland Way; and nearby Bridlington for the Bird of Prey and Animal Park, harbour spy mystery trail and Bondville Model Village.

Further along the coast, goths and others enjoy beautiful Whitby; then have fish and chips at the Magpie café after an afternoon seeing Whitby Abbey and the replica of HMS Endeavour.

Closer to home is the 11th-century Norman motte and bailey Skipsea Castle, managed by English Heritage and to the west of Skipsea village.

Not quite as old but still impressive in our (history) book is Fort Paull, the only Napoleonic fortress still in Yorkshire and now with a museum and the last surviving Blackburn Beverley aircraft in the world. Bring a camera: you’ll want to snap the views from the fort over the Humber estuary.

Inland yields loads to do too, with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Park both within driving distance; as it’s Yorkshire, you’ll find stately pads, historic houses and museums of all bents easily accessible too.

A good option for a city day trip is lovely York, about an hour’s drive away: take a sightseeing bus around first to get a flavour of this chocalatey city’s history, then mosey around York Minster, take the kids to Jorvik Viking Centre, or just go shopping in The Shambles and the city centre.

Must see

  • Burton Agnes Hall (6.3 miles)
  • Ferens Art Gallery (17.8 miles)
  • The Deep (18.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Maister House (17.8 miles)
  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (27.8 miles)
