General

  • Family-focused holiday park in a scenic countryside setting
  • On-site fishing lake and loads of activities to entertain the kids
  • Close to plenty to do on the East and North Yorkshire coasts

Skip to see – and stay at – this holiday park on the sandy East Yorkshire coast: it's likely you’ll love it.

Skipsea Sands Holiday Park is in a scenic countryside and village setting near Driffield, but is only a couple of miles from the stretch of Yorkshire coastline from Flamborough Head to Spurn Point – with Bridlington in between – and within easy driving distance of several sandy beaches. It has its own fishing lake and lands lots of activities and entertainment to float any individual boat.

Guests can be occupied day and night should they so wish: kids can work off energy at the adventure playground, chase a shuttlecock/football or rollerblade around the massive sports hall, before cooling off at the waterjets of the indoor pool, or going along to one of the many organised activities for all ages such as dance, football, water games and a club for the under-fives.

There’s a small charge to use the sports hall and for a couple of other activities like ten pin bowling and the intriguingly named aqua jets, but all other activities are free.

Elsewhere on site, bigger guests have access to the well-equipped park gym, while all ages can pile into the Pavilion family clubhouse for drinks and snacks; there are two other bars on site as well as The Sands diner with restaurant and takeaway.

Evenings are properly covered with a range of glitzy entertainment from live music to family shows.

Prefer to breeze gently through your hols rather than get involved in too much activity? A Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are on site to bubble placidly at too, all included in your pitch fee.

We Liked amenities i.e. Showers, toilets, washing area & portaloo disposal facilities.
Lots do onsite i.e. showbar & the boathouse bar next door to each other, indoor swimming pool, (bowling alley to be paid for) amusement arcade pool tables etc.
Site staff very friendly and well kept landscaped areas.
Showbar entertainment not too bad, their own staff are called troupers they do everything kids entertainment, dj, singing etc a bit like Butlins.

    Disliked:

No temperature control on showers can get too hot.
Food in the boathouse bar very limited menu due to the kitchen filter being broken.
Tent pitches are located on the tourers site, ground a little hard but managed to erect tent okay.

The site was clean and tidy. Large play area

    Disliked:

Not the fault of the site but unfortunately large patches of land between the site and the sea is being lost so there was no beach access and no safe access to the neighbouring village of Ulrome. This meant that with the push chair we were trapped on site

im really not sure what we liked, we initially booked our spot and were given a caravan pitch for our tent, which was £70, but on further enquiry we were moved to the tent pitch but still charged the caravan rate an when we asked we were told it wouldnt be refunded, should have been £50

    Disliked:

facilities, soap in to toilets was empty for all of our stay, an toilet roll was also mostly empty, no one explained that we were timed in the pool, the music/ microphones at the childrens disco were far from hearing safe, the climbing frame was cordened off for the duration of our stay, pitch had dog poo on it in several places, beach access is zero

Local attractions

The East and North Yorkshire coast is most visitors’ first stop, from the gannets gabbing at Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs to the seaside shenanigans and surfing of Scarborough.

If it’s raining, take the kids to Terror Tower: its two buildings and three floors’ worthy of grisly special effects should silence even the most horrifying sprog.

Flit to fab Filey for five miles of beach, its funfair and the start of the Cleveland Way; and nearby Bridlington for the Bird of Prey and Animal Park, harbour spy mystery trail and Bondville Model Village.

Further along the coast, goths and others enjoy beautiful Whitby; then have fish and chips at the Magpie café after an afternoon seeing Whitby Abbey and the replica of HMS Endeavour.

Closer to home is the 11th-century Norman motte and bailey Skipsea Castle, managed by English Heritage and to the west of Skipsea village.

Not quite as old but still impressive in our (history) book is Fort Paull, the only Napoleonic fortress still in Yorkshire and now with a museum and the last surviving Blackburn Beverley aircraft in the world. Bring a camera: you’ll want to snap the views from the fort over the Humber estuary.

Inland yields loads to do too, with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Park both within driving distance; as it’s Yorkshire, you’ll find stately pads, historic houses and museums of all bents easily accessible too.

A good option for a city day trip is lovely York, about an hour’s drive away: take a sightseeing bus around first to get a flavour of this chocalatey city’s history, then mosey around York Minster, take the kids to Jorvik Viking Centre, or just go shopping in The Shambles and the city centre.

Must see

  • Burton Agnes Hall (6.3 miles)
  • Ferens Art Gallery (17.8 miles)
  • The Deep (18.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Maister House (17.8 miles)
  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (27.8 miles)
