Proper posh pods for those who like camping in comfort are the order of the day at Wolds Glamping near Pocklington in Yorkshire's East Riding, run by Kay and David who have been welcoming visitors to their site for over 30 years. You can afford to pack lightly for these pods, for they're fully equipped with everything you might fancy: beds already made up, LED lighting, electric sockets, table and chairs, cot, high chair, barbecue just outside and even a hairdryer… All is toasty too as the pods are lagged and come with an oil-fired radiator and double-glazed window and door to keep things cosy all year round. The separate shared kitchenette is equipped with all essentials – microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, cutlery, glasses and crockery – and a heated shower block is on site with constant hot water, LED lighting, fans and three individual showers, toilets and washbasins. A communal kitchenette is also available for guests' use.

Local attractions

Pocklington, welcomer of walkers and cyclists for generations, is within walking distance of Wolds Glamping for shops, pubs, restaurants and the Pocklington Arts Centre with theatre, cinema and exhibition space. Pocklington's Burnby Hall Gardens are about a mile and a quarter away and have a National Collection of over 100 varieties of Hardy Water Lily as well as regular events throughout the year and Bertie, the world's biggest rocking horse. From the town, walk along the Wolds Way for smashing views: on a clear day, both the Pennines and Flamborough Lighthouse are visible. For something a bit more energetic, Pocklington Gliding Club and the Allerthorpe Lakes Activity Centre are close by, as is the KP Golf Club. Wildlife watchers have plenty of picks in the birdwatching and wildlife haven of East Yorkshire: wander along Pocklington Canal to see kingfishers, herons, barn owls and red kites, take a guided tour to see the seabirds of Bempton Cliffs from the scenic beaches of Bridlington, or arrange a tour on arrival at Wolds Glamping of the North Cave Wetlands. Deer, foxes, badgers and otters are often seen in the area too. Also recommended locally are historic houses like Burton Agnes, Sledmere Hall, Burton Constable, Sewerby Hall and Castle Howard. York, about 14 miles away (use the park and ride to avoid city parking), is a good bet too, as is Hull, often overlooked but well worth a visit for The Deep and the city museums.

#1 camping pod

Liked: Very clean, pods were a good size for 2 adults, and a large bbq was provided; accessible car park, showers and toilets. A nice area to stay in, very close to shops and pocklington town

Disliked: Only very small mirrors were provided, the kitchen could’ve had more facilities, such as an oven/hob. We weren’t aware that we had to bring our own coal, and wood for the BBQ, as the owner told us to buy our own

#1 camping pod

Liked: The pods were amazing. Really comfortable. Showers and toilets were incredible. 3 separate bathrooms to get showered and ready in. Campsite is small but perfect. Brilliant for children to play around on the field. The couple that own the place are so nice. Lovely chats with them on a morning. Giving great advice on where to go in the daytimes.

#1 camping pod

Liked: Kay and David upgraded us to the shepherds hut which was self contained. It was a great stay and very comfortable. A proper little sun trap and we enjoyed breakfast in the sun each morning. Nice to have your own facilities but the shared facilities for the other pods were great. Lovely flat walks in the area and a nice walk in to Pocklington. We caught the X46 in to York on Easter Saturday and walked the walls and had a nice late lunch. Nice to leave the car parked up for 3 nights 😎

Disliked: Nothing

#1 camping pod

Liked: Really cute and well insulated pods. I expected it to be freezing but we ended up turning the heater off and opening the window. Lovely grounds that are well maintained. Shower block and kitchen area was very clean and well facilitated. I had an arm injury and was in a bigger pod with additional beds to start which didn’t allow me the space I needed but my partner spoke to the owners and they immediately accommodated a swap of pods. Really couldn’t have asked for nicer hosts.

Disliked: Nothing. I honestly saw great value for money and would definitely go again
