General

  • Family park close to the Durham coastline
  • Smart facilities including a pool, Jacuzzi and sports centre
  • Spacious bar and restaurant

A pebble’s propulsion from golden sand dunes, with a perfect view of the blue-green ocean as far as the eye can see... Come and discover the splendour of the little-known Durham coastline at Crimdon Dene Holiday Park.

The smart facilities include an indoor pool with Jacuzzi, all-weather sports centre, and a spacious bar and restaurant.

As a family park, Crimdon Dene has a good range of daytime activities, kids' clubs and so forth, and in high season, there’s also plenty of evening action in the form of live music and shows (at other times, you’ll find a more toned-down entertainment schedule).

This site is a member of Parkdean Resorts group.

Drunk groups allowed on the touring pitch. Horrendous with music blasting until 2.30am, police called as abusive to couple who asked to turn music down. Their poor caravan was rocked, banged on, food thrown at it...wouldnt recommend Crimdon Dene unless you like drink, drugs, parties & have no care for your children or others.

    Friendly staff, good driving layout

    Disliked:

The touring pitches are right next to the entertainment complex so we suffered muffled music until after 11, then later the smashing of empty bottles into the bins. The pitches were also quite close together so we suffered "the Moron family"...Mr Moron shouted almost continuously at his kids and dog (which ran free against site rules) and the lot of them used our pitch as a shortcut (kicking a football as they went) to wherever they were going. Next morning Mr Moron decided to "play" (and I use the term loosely) his guitar for about an hour and a half!! We were booked for two nights but left after one...when we told the receptionist why, she said "Well. you should have rung security"..ta very much...We will not be returning!!!

We were using Crimdon Dene as a stop over night. Having booked over 2 weeks in advance and paid an extra amount to have access to the spa etc I was expecting the site to be well organised. It wasn't! After a 6 hour journey whilst heavily pregnant we just wanted to get there and collect our welcome pack from reception, set up our camper and relax. Upon arrival at 5.45pm there was no one in reception except a harassed looking young security gaurd dealing with a caravan break in. When he asked how he could help me I just said we'd just arrived and would like our passes and welcome pack and to be told where to set up our camper. He looked at me blankly and looked for our welcome pack and there was nothing there for us. After much searching he said there was nothing to give me and just handed me a map of the site and drew on it where to go. He said come back in the morning to collect our pack. We drove to our pitch and i walked straight to the toilet block to go to the loo. It was locked! Another guest came over and told me i needed to collect a key from reception and pay £10 deposit. So yet again we went back to reception. It was closed! So we rang the number for security. After 15 minutes of trying to reach someone i got through to the same guy again. He appologised and said he would be back in 10 minutes. Half hour later he arrived and said that his boss was coming down to open the cabinet where the keys were kept. I went in to reception and 20 minutes later he said im sorry she wont be much longer. If i take your number ill call you when she arrives. So yet again we drove back to our pitch. At 9pm nearly 4 hours after arriving we finally got a phone call to go collect the keys. Very disorganised and not the best welcome at all. Especially after travelling all day.

Local attractions

Ramble or ride along the coastal path to get the best views of the ruggedly dramatic Durham Heritage Coast, or head inland to explore ancient woodlands such as Castle Eden Dene, a 550-acre nature reserve with more than 450 types of flora and 12 miles of footpaths.

In nearby Hartlepool, guests can tour HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK, along with lots of other interesting stuff at the Maritime Experience on the historic quayside.

Other popular attractions include the Tweddle Children’s Animal Farm, which is on the doorstep, or the fascinating living history museum at Beamish, a little further afield.

It’s also well worth a trip to Durham, where you can stroll along the tranquil river banks for stunning views of the ancient cathedral and castle; or to Newcastle, which is crammed with culture and commerce.
