beautiful site, friendly, clean. lovely club house. scenery great.

    Disliked:

the pitch we had was on an incline and the way it was meant that we couldn't put our awning up and family had to pay to pitch a tent. also had family visit for the day and this cost us an added #47 which I felt un reasonable. however I didn't realise that we could have moved pitches but I will know for the future. and we will be back.

Lovely clean site, friendly staff and nice new full service pitches.

Not a fault of the site but access roads are unsuitable for Caravans except for 1 that was quite a detour to find. I would strongly recommend doing your homework and planning your route in advance.

Only thing we like was near to beamish

    Disliked:

This a one of the most expensive caravan parks I have stayed on with the worst facilities. 2 shower cubicles for the whole site which may I add you pay for. We paid 144 pounds for 3 nights. When pitching on to a grass pitch we had to pick up the dog muck that had been left there. Pitch very uneven. Electric kept going off nearly 24 hours without electric to be told that pitch includes electric so basically tuff. Women on reception is extremely rude and very unhelpful. She was not interested in helping at all. Weather was extremely cold so due to having no electric we had to go to else where to try and get warm. When I said that I had just been on to check reviews for this site and had found that electric seems to be a problem with this site she basically called me a lier I had the proof to show her but she was not interested. Would I stay at this site again not a cat in hell would I even for free. Way over prices with very unhelpful rude staff.

From the manager...

Thanks for your comments - we hope that overall you enjoyed your stay with us - as you point out, it had been snowing again in this area so we were affected by extreme temperatures and frozen water pipes - you're right to say that no work was being carried out at the time of your stay but again this was due to the inclement weather conditions which has hindered our progress and delayed our start date. Anyway, we hope to welcome you back at our park at some point in the future!

The cleanliness of the site was good.

    Disliked:

Noise after 11pm disturbed us. We were also disturbed one night by the neighbouring caravaner due to him having blown his electrics, he wanted us to unplug our power cable so he could try his cable in it but due to the very low temperatures that night we were reluctant to oblige.

    Disliked:

Showers - had to pay by token which, thanks to other reviewers, we bought in advance. The shower room was cold because the windows were always open to let condensation out as there are no fans.

Had to put a deposit down for two key fobs, one for the toilet block and one the barrier. On our day of departure the shop wasn't open when we left, so we had to push them through the letter box and hope our debit card will be refunded.

Local attractions

Bobby Shafto Caravan Park's setting in Beamish has it surrounded by small country pubs and up to date restaurants to sort out all guests' tipples and teas whatever their budget. Horse riding, fishing and cycling are available nearby and the C2C cycle path is a mile away.

Beamish is a comely little town, well known for its North of England Open Air Museum, which does exactly what it says on the tin in its aim of preserving the industrial history of England's north east in the twentieth century. (It's a lot more thrilling than it sounds, and has won plentiful awards: we thoroughly recommend a trip.)

Also get to Durham for the day, home of one of the country's most splendid cathedrals, and to Newcastle and Sunderland, all within easy driving distance.

Going east, sand fans can investigate the coastal town of South Shields, former home of saga storyteller Catherine Cookson and one of the most popular seaside resorts on this part of coast. Have a look at the museum and art gallery, the South Shields lighthouses, the reconstructed Roman fort and excavations at Arbeia, and the rather ornate town hall.
