Location from A1 and to city centre whilst still feeling remote is brilliant

    Disliked:

Shower/toilet facilities limited badly located and charged for on top of an already costly pitch fee. Very small pitches, appalling customer service and their response to a complaint was you complain too much we don't want you to come back

    Disliked:

Shower facilities reminded me of a 1970s barrack block. Only one serviceable shower for gents. Why bother with a shower token for 25p? Grass badly needed cutting. Not impressed by a quite expensive site.

An ok site and ok for a couple of nights. 03/08/2017

  • Liked:

The pod was really basic but we expected that. It was really warm and snug, which was just as well as it was quite cold at night.

    Disliked:

Check in was really slow, there was one guy on and he was taking a booking on the phone while I and a shop full of kids were waiting to be served. There were only two showers and one of them was broken with no sign of anyone trying to fix it. Rubbish area was piled high, skips brimming at the top. We were there Saturday to Tuesday. Saturday was one of the noisiest camp site experiences I have known, the pods are near the camping field and the music was amazingly loud. It did stop at 2300 but the evening was like a rave.

The site was really nice. Second time we have been and we will most likely return this year for a few nights. Chilled out site with kids allowed.Small park and a zip line with plenty of space to run around. Rigtnezt to bearish museum which we have a n annually pass for so made for the days entertainment.

    Disliked:

Only downside is the hilly route to get to the park when towing and the narrow roads for the last mile or so getting to the site

Local attractions

Bobby Shafto Caravan Park's setting in Beamish has it surrounded by small country pubs and up to date restaurants to sort out all guests' tipples and teas whatever their budget. Horse riding, fishing and cycling are available nearby and the C2C cycle path is a mile away.

Beamish is a comely little town, well known for its North of England Open Air Museum, which does exactly what it says on the tin in its aim of preserving the industrial history of England's north east in the twentieth century. (It's a lot more thrilling than it sounds, and has won plentiful awards: we thoroughly recommend a trip.)

Also get to Durham for the day, home of one of the country's most splendid cathedrals, and to Newcastle and Sunderland, all within easy driving distance.

Going east, sand fans can investigate the coastal town of South Shields, former home of saga storyteller Catherine Cookson and one of the most popular seaside resorts on this part of coast. Have a look at the museum and art gallery, the South Shields lighthouses, the reconstructed Roman fort and excavations at Arbeia, and the rather ornate town hall.
