Glevering Estate: Visitor image of the peaceful camp site

General

  • Peaceful touring site within the grounds of a Georgian country estate
  • A 15-minute drive to Snape Maltings, and 25 minutes to Aldeburgh
  • Adults-only grass pitches in an oak meadow near local pubs

Seeking a secluded spot to slow the pace of life? Glevering Estate has a small caravan and motorhome site on a family-run farming estate with uninterrupted views across the Suffolk countryside. It’s adults-only, set in a meadow framed by woodlands and – best of all – it’s in the centre of the lovely grounds of Georgian Glevering Hall.

Most mornings, birdsong will wake you, and later hopefully you’ll catch a special Suffolk sunset. Stroll across open fields to Wickham Market for bits and pieces from the local shops, or head to Easton for lunch, dinner or a drink in the pub or to explore their landscaped garden. Historic Woodbridge and Framlingham (15 minutes' drive, or roughly 30 minutes by bike) are within easy reach.

On site, there are facilities like drinking water and chemical waste disposal, as well as handy features like a dog kennel where you can drop off your pet for a few hours of solo exploration, firepits to hire and a small hut with a fridge, freezer and honesty shop (butter, milk, bread, local bacon, free-range eggs, chutneys and jams are all regularly stocked).

If you're a sporty sort, plenty of golf clubs are available locally, including Glevering Mill on the edge of the estate, a 9-hole par-3 course. The village also has tennis courts that can be hired, while watersports companies based on three nearby rivers make it possible to try out sailing, paddleboarding and canoeing.

There are just a few house rules: two well-behaved dogs per pitch are welcome (on leads at all times, please). Barbecues and firepits are permitted, but on very hot summer days you may be asked to stop lighting fires as a safety precaution, as there are crops nearby.

Please note that this site has no toilet or shower facilities.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Amazing location and friendly owner who really cares02/11/2022

Fantastic location, quiet and with views to die for
Electricity and water and waste disposal
Very welcoming host, Sandra offered to collect us if lost or puncture while cycling, could not have been more accommodating.
Fantastic walks into Easton village, amazing river walks and the worlds best fish finger sandwich and the White Horse

    Disliked:

Not a dislike, but for awareness, no toilet/shower facilities to keep the costs down, but to be honest the experience is better for the slightly wild feel in our opinion

From the manager...

What a wonderful review - So pleased to read you enjoyed your stay at Glevering and very much hope to see you again.
I have ponded about providing toilet and showering facilities, having spoken to several guests again this year who assure me they prefer to use their own. As we are a small site, adults only, there really doesn't warrant facilities and the expense of cleaners twice daily so I'm afraid no facilities in the pipeline for 2023
Many thanks again Keith - look forward to a return visit !

The owner Sandra was so lovely and welcoming, really went out of her way to make sure anyone arriving had all they needed. I loved the grounds especially the numbered walking routes along the way whilst walking my dog into Wickham Market. Will definitely return as soon as I can.

Many thanks Clare for your review which is very much appreciated - the numbered routes have worked well this year - not so many guests getting lost! Look forward to seeing you again

Fabulous site. Sandra was very welcoming. Each pitch has its own tap! They have thought of everything as it is in the middle of nowhere but have made a pantry with essentials including fridge and freezer with meals etc. There are some lovely walls which the owners have marked out and not too far from a couple of excellent pubs. Will most definitely will return. It’s a great location as close to Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge, Framingham and the coast.

Thank you so much for a fabulous review - am very grateful and look forward to seeing you both again. The pantry, with information of the local area has been met with approval this year, especially the bags of ice and ice creams in the freezer during the hot spell

Peace and Quiet20/09/2022

We loved the peace and quiet, plus you are surrounded by fields. It is a delightful site, that we will definitely return to!

    Disliked:

We prefer our own facilities, but some people may not notice that there are no ablutions. We have no issue with that what so ever though :-)

From the manager...

Many thanks Delia for your positive review - as always very grateful for and also for suggestions for the site. The facilities is something chewed over often. However, as we are a small site we have decided to not to offer shower and toilet facilities due to the cost of employing someone to clean the facilities at least twice a day. Speaking to the majority of guests I've been assured they prefer using their own. Inevitably and unfortunately there will be the occasional booking who hasn't noticed we don't offer facilities!
Hope to see you again

Local attractions

From the meadow, you can follow mapped paths and quiet lanes around the estate to cafés, surrounding villages and local pubs. Plenty of quiet cycling routes are available too, and bikes (including electric models) are available to hire if you fancy touring on two wheels.

One of the main local draws is Snape Maltings (15 minutes' drive), an arts centre established by Benjamin Britten with a packed schedule of concerts and exhibitions. Aldeburgh (25 minutes), meanwhile, has its own festival in early summer, and is a cracking little seaside town to visit any time of year, full of indie boutiques and top restaurants.

The Suffolk coastline is renowned for its beaches and sand dunes, with swims, walks and picnics all possible in the surrounding area. Popular picks include the shingle beach at Thorpeness (25 minutes), Walberswick (35 minutes) at the mouth of the river Blyth and Southwold (40 minutes) with its welcoming sandy beach.
