Absolutely the worst camping experience we have ever had. Do not go! 10/04/2016

The pitches are quite spacious and toilets are clean.

The staff/ owners who were openly hostile, resulting in us having to call the police to intervene when an argument over using wood on the fire not purchased at their shop erupted.

What an absolutely awful experience we had at Steadings Caravan site. My advice would be do not go under any circumstances. The owners were so incensed that on the last night at around 9pm we burned some wood that wasn't bought from their shop (which was only open for an hour in the mornings), that they asked us to leave early the next day and that we were barred for life. We tried to explain that we'd used the last of the wood we bought from them and that in a storm during the week which snapped our windbreak poles in half we popped those on the fire but the owner was raging. It was so out of the realms of normality that when we objected and said how it was ridiculous and we'd be writing a bad review - the female owner squared up to one of our female party members (a primary school teacher!) and said to get her off their land now. She picked up and threw a bag of logs by the fire in a temper and was screaming in front of the kids saying we had to pack up and leave right away. We said as we'd had a couple of glasses of wine we'd need to leave as planned in the morning but the woman kept screaming no you all leave now. To be fair the male owner tried to calm the lady down and drag her away but she was extremely aggressive. We didn't know what to do so I called the local police to help intervene. 10 minutes later the owners cut all the power plunging the area into darkness and patrolled with Doberman dogs scaring the kids (ages 6-11) senseless. I called the police again as we were now getting scared ourselves. The police came after a while and said their hands are tied the owners said we had threatened them (completely untrue) and that we had to leave as it's essentially private property. They tried to reason with the owners but to no avail. The police apologetically helped us package up our sobbing 6 year olds, by this time almost midnight into cars and breathalised us to check we could drive safely as we had no other choice. One of the policemen said he recommended the nearby Moon and Sixpence as a far friendlier campsite. all over a petty argument about the wrong wood! My advice would be to steer well clear.
