General

  • Tiny site on a working farm
  • Four miles from Woodbridge
  • Wild camping but with some home comforts

At Greenlay Pastures find a little piece of the English countryside and escape for a while. The site is four miles from the beautiful market town of Woodbridge which sits on the River Deben estuary.

The campsite is located on a working farm in the pretty village of Bredfield. The village has a shop selling local produce. There is also a playing field with tennis courts for hire and a children's play area. All are within a few minutes' walk of the campsite.

The farm provides grazing for sheep and cattle. For many years this was a small organic dairy farm which with its pasture and mature hedgerows provided a haven for plants, birds and animals. Traditions of husbandry have been maintained in recent years so that the essence and beauty of the farm remains. This year the owners are pleased to find patches of wild orchids again on the meadow next to the campsite.

There are a toilet and washroom on site and a separate electric shower. The water tap is located outside the washroom. At Greenlay Pastures the experience is more akin to wild camping: turning up and setting up camp in a meadow close to nature and wildlife. If you prefer wild camping but with some home comforts then this could be the place for you.

The amount of space we had to camp was just great. We were close to the water tap and toilet which helped. We had fun with the fire ring. It was nice that it was close to the beach.

    Disliked:

There was very little shade, so the site was quite exposed on the hot day we were blessed with. Though we travelled over 2 hours to be far from the noisy city, there was party noise coming from a few blocks away (nothing to do with the campsite) well after 11pm which was a shame.

Fantastic rustic camping! 30/08/2016

A fantastic little find, Fiona was very welcoming and accommodating. The pitches were HUGE. We had a whole pasture to ourselves with a lovely big fire pit - Fiona provides sacks of firewood at really reasonable prices and was readily available throughout our stay. The toilet and shower facilities were the cleanest I have used at a campsite - Very impressed! Despite there only being one toilet and shower we did not have to queue to use.

On clear nights we were able to star gaze, We were treated to shooting stars, Constellations and even the milky way!

This is bordering on wild camping so do not expect great phone signal or wifi, It was not a problem for us.

    Disliked:

Only a tiny niggle and that was that there was just a tap supplying the clean water - So a little difficult washing up - But certainly nothing to complain about!

Peaceful location. Firepits. Seeing the stars in clear country skies. Easy assess from a12. Big pitches. If you want to 'get back to nature' this is a great site.

    Disliked:

Pitches big and relatively flat. We were hoping there would be a flat field for playing in but it was rough ground and full of thistles. You can hear the a12 in the distance at night. Shower is about weedy. None of these things are big issues and none of them stopped our enjoyment, thet just stopped us giving it 10/10.
