The roomy pitches at Carlton Meres are grouped in camping and touring areas, all with their own shower and loo block, waste disposal points and fresh water points. The touring shower blocks, swimming pool shower blocks and entertainment complex have all been fully refurbished in 2015.

Liked the location, field was lovely and flat for tent, with nice short grass, shower block and toilets were clean. Good washing up area.
    Nice and quiet.
Pool looked good, although we didn't have time to use it.

    Disliked:

Could do with more water taps.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feedback, now that we have fully taken over this Park we will have a plan in place to develop areas including the Touring area. We will pass your comments on.

The clubhouse was very clean, staff friendly. Swimming pool looked nice and clean. Plenty of toilets and showers.

    Disliked:

Pitches were not marked clearly, site under construction so unfinished facilities. Booked ehu for tent had had a touring pitch with a man hole in the middle of the pitch which would've been ok if we had a caravan but we didn't and no communication to say pitch was being changed until we arrived. Our neighbours were drinking until 2am making noise site rules were quiet by 10pm. Lack of bins for rubbish around the site, all bins in one area at the entrance to the site meaning a long walk to dispose of rubbish. Showers were dirty.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback, the Park is undergoing some work at the moment so apologies if this disturbed you. Not sure if you mentioned the noise levels at night to the Reception Team who, I'm sure had a quiet word to ask for the noise to be kept down. Thanks once again for your feedback its appreciated.

Facilities, not a lot to do...
As I found out when there, the campsite was in receivership when I booked, so shouldn't of taken booking, when at camp site there was building work going on & I they asked me to move my tent twice, after second time I for my money back, packed up & left that morning, a day & half early.

    Not happy

From the manager...

Many thanks for your feedback, apologies for any inconvenience that was caused by you having to move your tent, I can imagine what you went through. We have only just taken this Park over from the beginning of June. I do hope you will give us another try, perhaps when we have things much more back on track. Thank you once again.

Great stay- acres of space, lovely clean toilets and shower blocks, gorgeous heated pool, the kids absolutely loved it.

    Disliked:

Sadly sauna was not working so I did not get my treat. 😟

From the manager...

Many thanks for your feedback about the Sauna not working, I am not sure of the reason but it would have been a H & S issue as to why it could not be opened, thanks once again and hope that when you return everything is up and running.

Facilities great club house great swimming pool excellent surroundings nice walks around the grounds

    Disliked:

I think they call them flower bugs - swarmed by flies just as well we were out all day but when we got back in the evening bugs were swarming around the tent told by other campers that it was due to the hot weather and the colour of our tent which was green in colour.
Tent pitches were a bit close together.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feedback, I'm sure you are aware that the Park is situated in a country location with Lakes will will attract bugs unfortunately, coupled with the fact that you had the wrong colour tent must have made it uncomfortable for you. I'm sure you realise there is very little we can do about the environment and would suggest that next time you go that you take with you some sort of over sheet that can disguise the colour of your tent.

  • Liked:

The site where we pitched the tent was beautiful and even had a nearby football goal. Toilets and showers were very clean at all times

    Disliked:

When we arrived we got told the pool was out of action then later told half the activities were not open due to the park under going new management despite not telling me anything in the month between my booking and holiday.

I wanted a nice self contained holiday as advertised as it was we had to leave the site every day for activities and food as apparently all the restaurants served according to the guy serving was microwave pizza

From the manager...

Many thanks for your feedback on this, I can imagine that your stay was not as we would have liked it to be and please accept our apologies. Were hoping that all of your problems were logged with Reception and a satisfactory solution arrived at. Thank you once again.

  • Liked:

Great site. Very clean and tidy with lots of space. Very peaceful. In a great location with some great sites to see all within a shorts drive.

    Disliked:

Swimming pool was closed during the hottest weekend of the year due to a new insurance policy that requires them to have a lifeguard.

Staff do not do rounds of the grounds and check visistors are adhering to the rules. Many of other campers allowed their dogs to roam free, one of which tried to attack my dog. One pitch had 3 cars and a van with very loud music playing until very late at night.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feedback, at Park Holidays UK we do insist that we have lifeguards in place in all of our pool areas, to provide safe areas for families to swim. We will pass on your feedback about other Campers, the site does have wardens however they can't be everywhere at once. Thanks once again.

Local attractions

After they've whirled around on site for a while, take the kids to the coast at Aldeburgh (seven miles) or Southwold (14 miles) for days on the beach, buying freshly caught fish on the sands and enviously eyeing up the beach huts.

Walberswick's also well worth a look, to birdwatch among its heath and marshlands, catch crabs on its beach or to take the ferry across the Blyth to Southwold; you might spy some celebrity residents in this popular town too...

Both Felixstowe and Lowestoft are within 19 miles for additional Suffolk seaside trips; some time should be spent at Lowestoft for the Pleasurewood Theme Park too – and from there one can move onto the seaside at Great Yarmouth and the rest of the Norfolk coast or the Suffolk and Norfolk Broads.

Closer to home, take a trip to fab Framlington Castle five miles away – where Mary Tudor was proclaimed queen, fact fans – and to Orford Castle ten miles from camp, both managed by English Heritage and both rather spectacular.

See also, for wildlife-loving sprogs, the 2,000+ residents at Norfolk's Banham Zoo, and walking among the parrots, mammals and reptiles of African safari park Africa Alive! at Kessingland, a colourful day out sure to have them squawking.

Must see
