Norfolk Coast B&B Cottages & Camping: Camping Pitches with views over open countryside

General

  • Wildlife haven among open fields: walk to the beach in five minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site just behind the coast path
  • Barbecues and campfires both allowed: shop a minute's walk away

The splendid beach near Norfolk Coast B&B Cottages & Camping is the only eastern beach in Britain facing west. (Do keep up: the setting is in East Anglia, thus east, but the beach is Heacham, facing west.)

And what does this mean apart from just the opportunity to bamboozle the kids? Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, that's what, as well as a setting just five minutes from these dog-friendly sands and with easy access to the beaches, birdwatching, boating and rambles of the Wash and west Norfolk's coast.

Norfolk Coast B&B Cottages & Camping is a few minutes' drive from Heacham (or 10 minutes via the Coasthopper bus), in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive.

The site has a good selection of amenities including three toilet cubicles (separate ladies' and gents'), two unisex showers and a washroom space, as well as a washing-up area and a freshwater tap/brown water and chemical waste disposal point for guests' use. Charging facilities are available for a small extra charge. Please note there are farm tracks on site (not paved roads) and no play area, although the beach is half a mile away.

Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need.

Site is not finished and nothing is ‘done well’ . Piles of boxes everywhere. Toilets half finished . We came away to get away from our building site at home and it was worse on the campsite !

Pitches a little too close and car parking was a little tight and took some work to get out.

From the manager...

Thank you Donza for your review, we are sad that you wouldn't visit us again here on the Norfolk COast, we have a lot to offer to be just a 2-minute walk from the beach, just a couple of miles from Hunstanton and being surrounded by the nature reserves of Ken Hill. We were very busy over the Bank Holiday, people have mentioned the site had a nice festival feel to it and they everyone was very friendly and new friendships were made, we are sorry you'd prefer something more formal, perhaps you'll reconsider and visit us again at a quieter time :)

lovely location so close to the beach, pleased to be given a quieter pitch on arrival, hosts very friendly and helpful, everywhere beautifully clean and tidy and not too basic, felt very safe, liked the solar shower although not brave enough to try it! Loved the friendly chickens. Think this place has real potential to be super eco-friendly.

    Disliked:

Would have liked recycling facilities for our rubbish.

From the manager...

Thank you Jo for your fabulous review and thank you for staying with us! We are a lovely quiet site and try to give a back to nature experience with basic, but very good facilities! We do have big recycling bins on-site, they could have clearer signage as to what goes I what bin, this is something we will sort out, we hope that you'll visit us again soon :)

Location of the campsite was amazing it was really peaceful and close to the beach

    Disliked:

The campsite was clearly over booked, electricity hardly worked which cost £30 for 3 nights. It was very over priced for a grass pitch.

From the manager...

Thank you Katy for your review, we are very well located just a few minutes' walk from the vast golden sands of Heacham South beach, we have a small site here with huge skies and the peace and tranquility is all included in the price! We are sorry that you have electric trouble over the bank Holiday, we did have trouble and sought to rectify the issue as quickly as possible, we know what our capabilities are and are not offering as many hook ups as we did, it's all trial and error for such a young site. We do hope that you'll take the time to visit us again soon :)

Local attractions

Twitchers rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash.

Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species.

Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
