General

  • No finer place to pitch up, mix gastronomy with camping
  • On the grounds of Somerleyton Estate
  • Horse riding, lakeside pitches, water sports, adventure playground

Tranquillity and adventure await you at The Fritton Arms Campsite. Make the Fritton Arms part of your great local day out - there are lovely walks along the banks of Fritton Lake, an adventure playground and in summer plenty of activity on the lake itself.

Remember to refuel with fine dining at the on-site pub... or simply do nothing at all and enjoy the countryside views and settings.

The campsite is set within the 5000 acres of the Somerleyton Estate where you can enjoy an afternoon tea in the gardens after visiting the manor house. Guests can also visit the sister pub, The Duke's Head after a woodland walk. Toilets and showers are available near the camping field.

Setting was lovely, reasonable price. Quiet.

    Disliked:

One ladies toilet, no hot water for washing up. Not enough/adequate bins, so rubbish overflowed & attracted vermin. Small pitches, but didn't affect us as fairly quiet on our visit. Camp map vague. Staff not proactive at all. No changes at all when reading last years reviews. Disappointed

Beautiful setting, great play park with a massive bouncing pillow! Pony rides and cow milking daily. There are bikes and go karts you can hire, as well as boats! It's just a perfect camp site.

    Disliked:

No hot water for washing up, but this is their first season with camping facilities and I am sure this will change with improvements.

Pick your own spot, no cars left on site, good size pitches. We were camping virgins so a bit apprehensive but would definitely go again! We are actually a family with a 5 year old and 16 year old but the choices didn't cover us! The play area was excellent enough to keep both ages entertained they both really enjoyed it.

    Disliked:

The toilet and shower facilities need improvement as not enough there although they obviously realised this and 2 portaloos turned up during our stay. No hot water for washing up. Nowhere to refreeze freezer blocks. An electric charging locker station would be a good idea too. I understand this is their first season though so bound to be teething problems.

The layout of the site means you camp in secluded corners of the site by trees and bushes, with just a few other tents, not in the middle of a big field like some sites. The proximity to the pub is the best part. Try one of their special Gin and Tonics - delicious! You are left to get on with it without "campsite police" which it sometimes feels like at other places. Also the fact that cars are parked just off the site means it is very peaceful and relaxed on the site.

    Disliked:

A proper washing up area would be better but they say they are working on the facilities for next year. They have responded to previous comments by adding two extra portaloos. All the toilets and showers were clean.

Take walks in the estate and visit the stately Somerleyton Hall and Gardens, making time for afternoon tea.

Dine at The Fritton Arms and The Dukes Head - both excellent pubs serving fresh, local ingredients, with flair!
