General

  • Multi award-winning site in the Norfolk Broads
  • Treehouse, zipwire, miniature golf and 18-hole putting course
  • Heated pool, bike trail, adventure play, archery, bar and restaurant

Cool camping, family fun or hiding out in The Dell? Take your pick from these – and more – at Clippesby Hall, a multi award-winning site in the Norfolk Broads National Park with eight different camping areas to choose from and activities on site from golf to cycling.

Energetic pipsqueaks will like the family-orientated and spacious Cedar Lawn touring space near the treehouse and the tennis courts (there’s also a zipwire courtesy of local adventure BeWILDerwood), or South Park set between the swimming pool and the miniature golf course. Want a quieter break? Head to the hidden woodland pitches in The Dell or the sunny spacious pitches of The Pine Woods and The Heath.

Whichever pitch you pick, there’s enough to do on site that previous guests have said they didn’t leave the park throughout their entire break: as well as the tennis courts and heated outdoor pool, both open from May until the end of September, there’s an 18-hole mini putting course, an adventure play area – and a less adventurous one with swings and sandpit – and archery lessons available for a small extra charge.

But the kids will probably head straight for the cycle hire centre: there’s a cycle trail on site and the flat landscape all around Clippesby Hall is suitable for even small legs when pedalling, with plenty of stops along the way for birdwatching, fishing and boating.

The centre hires out bikes for all ages, with Norfolk Broads routes, helmets, locks and repair kits all provided free of charge. BeWILDered by all the choices before you? Clop along for advice and tips to the friendly experts at Clippesby Hall’s award-winning information centre, who can tailor-make your day out as well as make bookings for your bike and canoe hire.

Pitches at Clippesby Hall are individually numbered with space for car parking; a car park is also available if you have more than one vehicle along. Toilets and showers are plentiful too, including a family bathroom for littlies, and unlimited free hot water is in all the centrally heated shower blocks.

For food, Susie’s Bakery dishes up freshly baked bread, Italian coffee and pizzas; the Muskett Arms bar and restaurant serves evening meals and lunchtime snacks at weekends.

absolutely loved this site but it was a bit strange that there were only a couple of reviews on pitch up and I can not understand why. The site is enormous, we have a vwt5 and was very happy with the generous pitch with electric and water. We stayed on 'Orchard' site and was very close to the toilet and shower block. The musket arms is the onsite pub which is very friendly and serves good food, they also have a games room for the children (or adults) Susie's café is by reception and has a small shop and serves very good food. the homemade cakes are scrummy and the local produce tastes divine. There is lots to do or not to do depending on what you like. We were surrounded by trees and it was very peaceful this is definitely in our top 5 sites and can not wait to return.

    Disliked:

not really a dislike the shower block near us was very clean and the showers very warm but lacked a bit of water pressure. Also more of an observation than dislike a few lights around the pitches and paths would be handy

Great site with good facilities in a good location. 14/09/2017

The pitches are a good size and well spaced. We stayed in Orchard, on a gravel pitch with water and electricity right by each pitch. The site is surrounded by trees, which didn't shade us too much even though the sun is lower in Autumn. They also helped mitigate a strong overnight wind.
The on-site cafe and pub/restaurant are really good value for money and obviate the need to go off-site for these facilities. The staff were all pleasant and helpful.
All in all a very good place to stay and well placed for Norwich, the Broads and the coast.

Local attractions

The cycle hire centre at Clippesby Hall is one of many in the Norfolk Broads area and the National Cycle Centre has several routes running through the Broads: Route 1 goes from Wisbech and Fakenham on the Hull to Harwich route and Regional Route 30 connects the north Norfolk coast with the east coast and Great Yarmouth and through the Waveney Valley.

Use Clippesby Hall’s Discovering the Broads guide to plot your Norfolk days out: as well as cycling, a boat trip along the Broads is a must – row or paddle your way along, take a guided cruise, go aboard a Norfolk wherry or learn to sail. Electric Eel boat trips take in the wildlife of the Broads and the How Hills National Nature Reserve; find info on this fen at the Toad Hole Cottage or bring along your binoculars for some birdwatching and nature spotting. This area of Norfolk is known for its rare wildlife species: the Hickling Broad Nature Reserve is also within reach of Clippesby Hall and has guided boat trips along the Broad.

How Hills Nature Reserve has water gardens with specimen trees and exotic plants, with Norfolk and neighbouring Suffolk a horticultural haven for green-fingered types: the Grade II listed Somerleyton Hall near Lowestoft has an impressive maze to get unimpressively lost in; there’s another water garden, more boat trips and acres of woodland at Fairhaven Garden Trust at South Walsham, and acres of gardens – including a tea garden – at the Old Vicarage Garden at East Ruston.

For day trips, there are Broads villages galore to explore: take a trip to Ranworth and see if you can spot the ghost of the twelfth century monk rowing his boat in the morning mist (shiver); there’s a nature reserve here too and a walk from the village to South Walsham Broad. You can also let the kids loose on the treehouses of BeWILDerwood or spend the day shopping and sightseeing in Norwich with its castle, cathedral and cobbled streets; the city is now one of the top ten shopping destinations in the UK.

The seaside resort of Great Yarmouth is crammed with things to do whatever your inclination, from the Pleasure Beach and Hippodrome circus to the historic South Quay and award-winning Time & Tide museum.
