Well-kept grounds

General

  • Between Cambridge and Huntingdon with easy access to the A14
  • Carp and coarse fishing on mature lakes; kids' activity centre on site
  • A 10-minute walk from Fenstanton village centre

Crystal Lakes Caravan Park is in the Cambridgeshire countryside, covering around 12 acres of meadowland and with small mature fishing lakes that are set up for carp and coarse fishing. It’s a secluded space but with easy access to the A14, about 10 minutes’ drive from Huntingdon.

The village of Fenstanton is a 10-minute walk away, and it’s well served with a butcher, two general stores, a baker and newsagent, shops selling fresh garden produce and free-range eggs, an excellent fish and chip shop and four village pubs all serving food. If you need to work up an appetite for that food, hit the nearby cycle paths or public footpaths to explore the area (there are over 600 miles of public footpaths around, as well as the RSPB reserve at Fen Drayton Lakes).

Facilities back at base include spacious toilets, showers and hand basins, all supplied with free hot and cold water. Washing and drying machines are also available at a small charge. Kids can play games or run about on the recreation field, or sign up for various antics at the activity centre on site (entry charge applies as this is run by a different company).

And of course, there’s the fishing to keep you busy… there’s a small daily charge for that, with carp, tench, pike, bream and others to hook out of the two lakes.

Lovely staff and even the regulars who spend several weeks there. Our neighbour Rory who also volunteers as a fire marshaller was a story in the making, thoroughly enjoyed talking to him. The site management were great hosts. The camp was perfectly located to visit some of the local places of interest.

Relaxed about pitch size, which could be advantageous or disadvantageous depending on who you have next to you. We were lucky and got a big pitch with space around it, but saw some other tents which were crammed together (they were already like that when we arrived and I think we got the last pitch). Toilets were mostly clean and it was helpful to have sinks for washing up.

    Disliked:

More bins needed around site. Music level rules after 10 need to be enforced. Reception was marked out but you couldn’t get in to it and the buzzer didn’t appear to be working. This resulted in us walking around aimlessly when we arrived, trying to work out where we needed to report to.

From the manager...

Thanks for the review.

We do have large rubbish skips walking distance from most pitches. Our staff always enforce our rules which include loud music and noise to to be switched off or kept to a minimum after 10pm. The buzzer on the reception door is new and has worked for all our other guests so far , who were then greeted by one of our staff and escorted to a pitch.

We are of course busier than usual and if one of our staff doesn’t greet you within 5 minutes of arriving, chances are they are pitching another guest.

Mens loos not kept as well as ladies
    Shop very limited
    electric pitches very close together
    lots of resident caravans

From the manager...

Thanks for the review.

We can assure you that the showers and toilets are cleaned and checked regularly, obviously this is of the upmost importance at the moment due to Covid-19, however if you do have an issue please don’t hesitate to tell one of our staff.
The shop is only for basic amenities but there is local village shop walking distance and a Morrison’s a short driving distance.
On Pitchup it does state the size of the pitches and the only reason pitches may be closer is if they have requested to be.
And yes we do have seasonal caravans on site for guests who enjoy staying longer term.

    Lake for fishing.

    Disliked:

    Unfinished look of site.
Amount of people in small space.
Tents were made to pitch very close to each other with no thought for fire safety.
Several groups of people played music until the early hours and then started again early in the morning.

From the manager...

Thanks for the review.

We are aware of some tents being closer together, this is became they arrive together and have requested to be pitched closer.
We do enforce the rule for loud music or noise to be switched off or quietened down after 10pm.
