General

  • Adults-only rural site next to a golf course in Pidley village
  • Half an hour's drive from Ely and 45 minutes from Cambridge
  • Restaurant, tennis court and three-acre fishing lake on site

Seeking a place that’s entirely free of tiddlers running around underfoot? Settle in at Stroud Hill Park and you’ll find it’s a most grownup affair at this adults-only Cambridgeshire countryside site, in the village of Pidley and 20 minutes’ drive from Huntingdon.

Without any kids to cater for, all the effort has gone into honing the site’s facilities for a more mature palate. At the heart of the place is a timber-framed building that’s home to a shop, an excellent restaurant (with a well-stocked bar, naturally…) and top-notch bathrooms with toilets and showers – all of it set up to be accessible to disabled guests and those a little less steady on their feet.

Likewise, activity options are all aimed at more adult tastes – there’s a tennis court on site, along with a huge three-acre coarse fishing lake packed with bream, roach and chunky carp (up to 25 pounds), and a golf centre next door with an 18-hole course (plus ten pin bowling in case rain stops play). A couple of circular walking routes run from just outside the park, although you may prefer to amble along the 25-minute route to the local village pub…

Days out? This is a good area to get max value out of your National Trust membership, pootle around gardens and little villages or take off to explore the market in St Ives, the cathedral city of Ely or the colleges of Cambridge.

Please note

Facilities/activities including tennis and fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

If a customer has a disability and needs to be near the amenities block, they must ask on booking and the site owners will do their very best to keep a pitch as close as possible. The key to the disabled toilet facility is available when checking in.

The restaurant and bar are open from 6pm Wednesday - Saturday and from 12pm to 2pm Sunday.

Quiet, well spaced site. Showers and toilets immaculate, washing machine and tumble dryer available at a cost of £2 each per cycle. Restaurant on site although limited opening hours provide quality food and drink at a reasonable price. Covid precautions taken seriously

    Disliked:

    WiFi signal was poor.
A couple of spots where people had not taken responsibility for dog poo. Not the sites fault.

The site is well maintained and is peaceful. Nice walks around despite the stormy weather making the ground saturated.
The facilities were very nice and clean and staff take great pride in the site which is nice to see.
The restaurant came in very handy as cooking in a small camper van isn’t the best when the doors have to closed. It was fairly expensive but the food was great, beer nice and the staff including Sydnee ( who was brilliant and very funny) made it a pleasure able stay.
Lovely to have a late check out for no extra.
    We will be back

    Disliked:

WiFi, although not essential was very hit and miss but it is rural so no worries.

The area was beautiful and the site was well kept
The pitch was a good size
The wardens were pleasant and helpful
    No late stay fee
Great stay quiet and relaxing - but we would come back for 1-2 nights rather than stay longer as a bit too out of the way - at this time of the year

    Disliked:

No shop within 3 miles - so don’t forget your essentials
No motorhome drive over waste - can cause an issue if your staying for more than a couple of nights
Showers not working for the last 18 hours of our stay and couldn’t use our motorhome shower due to water waste issue

Local attractions

This is an excellent area for folk who fancy a bit of gentle walking or bike riding on hols – it’s mercifully light on hills and there are plenty of quiet lanes, footpaths and bridleways to make your way along as you traipse between villages, parks and nature reserves.

There’s much strolling to be done at nearby National Trust estates too: check out the 18th-century workings of Houghton Mill (20 minutes), wander through the elegant walled gardens of Wimpole Hall (35 minutes’ drive), peruse Peckover House’s fine gardens (45 minutes) and take an arty amble around Anglesey Abbey (45 minutes).

St Ives (15 minutes) is worth a slice of your time, especially if you make it over there on market day (Monday or Friday) and leave time for a riverside walk to see the swans. For a bit more river-based activity, head to Cambridge (45 minutes) to see the sights while attempting to navigate a punt along the River Cam.

Must see

  • Ely Cathedral (12.7 miles)
  • Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial (12.7 miles)
  • Kings College Chapel (14.5 miles)

National Trust

  • Houghton Mill (5.5 miles)
  • Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve (15.0 miles)
