Why visit Broadway?

Broadway Tower

Broadway’s defining landmark is of course the Broadway Tower, which sits on top of Broadway Hill, the second-highest point in the Cotswolds. The plans for the 65-foot-high folly were hatched by Capability Brown and the building was completed in 1798. Just next door, the Tower Barn rents out e-bikes for those who’d like to take to two wheels to explore the views and the surrounding 200-acre Cotswold parkland, where there’s also a nuclear bunker.

Ride on a steam railway

Broadway is a stunning stop along the Cotswolds’ so-called ‘Friendly Line’, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. Broadway station has been rebuilt in its old 20th-century style, and customers can board a steam locomotive for trips across the Cotswolds landscapes – riding all the way to Cheltenham if they wish. The Broadway Museum & Art Gallery documents how Broadway residents travelled before the steam railway arrived.

Cotswolds walks long or short

Whether you’re a keen rambler or a fan of a brief country stroll, Broadway has access to Cotswolds trails that are sure to please. The village sits on The Cotswold Way, which stretches for 106 miles between Bath and Chipping Campden and makes a great option for long hikes or scenic walks on shorter sections. There’s a hilly loop around the village for quicker wanders, as well as walks to Broadway Tower, Chipping Campden and Dovers Hill past woodlands and historical sites.

Unexplored Broadway

Go whisky or gin tasting

Broadway is home to the Cotswolds Distillery Shop, where visitors can sign up for private tasting experiences. Whether you’re learning how to make top-notch martinis and blend your own gin or sampling spirits and single malt whisky, there are plenty of ways to discover the different signature drinks of the Cotswolds.

Try pottery making

Book yourself onto a clay modelling workshop in the family-run village studio, where you can create a very personal work of art to take home. Under the instruction of expert ceramic artists, you can have a go at using the potter’s wheel too.

Picnic on a lavender farm

Based up on a hill overlooking Broadway, Cotswold Lavender blooms every summer. The 70-acre farm is a top picnic spot, as well as a great base for walks on their woodland trail. There are lavender products available to buy here too.
