General

  • Peaceful family-run park two miles from Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Shop, off-licence, free hot showers and spotless facilities
  • Regular bus service from right outside the site

Settle yourselves down here, Shakespeare fans: Dodwell Park is just two miles from Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s cottage and all the bardly attractions of Stratford-upon-Avon.

There’s peace, there’s quiet, there’s a countryside setting – and if all that still isn’t enough for a final attempt to get the kids (and dog) reading sonnets, you can culture-ise them by taking them along to nearby Warwick Castle for all sorts of horrible history. Sorted.

Dodwell Park is a small family-run site where the amenities are kept to spotless standards, with free hot showers, dishwashing facilities and hairdryers to keep the barnet looking tip-top; a shop and off-licence is on site and armfuls of leaflets at the information stand with info on Stratford-upon-Avon and other local tourist attractions.

Nearby you’ll find Cotswold villages with Shakespearely thatched inns, walks and cruises along the River Avon and the hills of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Boating, fishing and old buildings are at Luddington village about three miles from Dodwell Park.

Leaving the car behind to avoid hiking up car parking costs in Stratford? A regular bus service stops right outside the site.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 10 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Facilities in need of refurbishment 20/02/2018

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom lin g. Confirmed

  • Liked:

Close proximity to Stratford upon Avon and attractions, a very quiet site

    Disliked:

Due to poor weather the ground was very soft, toilet and shower block very outdated, cold and dirty, could do with complete refurbishment. Reception and shop not always staffed, this said the stand-in site manageress was polite. Having booked as a motor home I would have thought we would be placed on a more level pitch, which were available. I will try to use the racecourse site down the road instead next time

Arrived Saturday afternoon warden was not expecting us said they hadn’t received our booking and the site was full ! After showing booking confirmation and a few phone calls later we were asked to pitch on a road passing through the site behind another camper van . When we tried to go of site had to reverse the length of the site as no where to turn around and you would sink in the grass . Would we go again NO
Was it worth the money definitely not no discount offered due to staying on road . Check booking before you leave .

Stayed in electric hook up hard standing.
Very high standard site. Nice clean showers, always warm.
A large area for washing your dishes.
A bus stop right outside with a regular service.
Five minutes from Stratford town centre.
A lovely shop which stocks mostly everything.
We stay here on a regular basis and would definitely recommend it to everyone.

    Disliked:

The only improvement would be the installation of a small laundry room.
That would save us going into Stratford laundrette.

1 on-site long term resident constantly drilling within their caravan all hours, told no dogs to do their business on site as no red bins for dog waste but to use the walking field at front of site which is a good size

Local attractions

To Stratford-upon-Avon first: see what the big deal is by catching a Royal Shakespeare Company play before a trip around town to the Shakespeare attractions; buy a Shakespeare Five House Pass to see Hall's Croft, Mary Arden's Farm, Nash's House and New Place and Shakespeare's Grave alongside Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage.

Stratford also has a butterfly farm with Europe’s biggest butterfly exhibition, Stratford Racecourse and evenings at Cox’s Yard for live music and more theatre.

Many companies offer cruises along the Avon, but to really save pennies take a trip on the old chain ferry for 20p, which will cruise you across the river for a walk to the butterfly farm, or stay on land and take the mile and a quarter route along the Avon for views of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare’s burial place Holy Trinity Church and the Memorial Theatre Gardens.

Scores of other walks can be had in the Cotswolds, the biggest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England, with miles’ worth of footpath and bridleways broken up by small villages and market towns. The Cotswold Way runs 102 miles south from Chipping Campden to Bath and passes many historical houses and churches.

For Cotswold nature spotting and wildlife parks, the kids can chatter at the 500+ birds at Birdland Park and Gardens or meet the peacocks and deer at Prinknash Bird Park.

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust reserve at Slimbridge has the biggest collection of swans, ducks and geese in the world and has events, arts, talks and wildlife encounters all year round.

After Warwick Castle, families can have a day out at the Ragley Hall Estate to get lost in the 3D maze, or go to Kenilworth Castle with its children’s audio trail covering the history of the castle and the lovelorn Robert Dudley who built it in the sixteenth century to impress Liz One.

Kids will probably also like the gizmos at Stratford’s MAD (Mechanical Art and Design) Museum, Hatton Farm Village at Warwick or driving you nuts around the world’s biggest collection of historic British cars at the Heritage Motor Centre, with Land Rover Experience, nature path and children's playground.

Must see

  • Anne Hathaway's Cottage (1.2 miles)
  • Nash's House & New Place (2.3 miles)
  • Royal Shakespeare Theatre (2.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Kinwarton Dovecote (4.9 miles)
  • Charlecote Park (6.2 miles)
