  • Quiet, well-kept site on a farm in pretty Leicestershire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to Drayton Manor Theme Park; Twycross Zoo 10 minutes
  • Dogs welcome and river walks on site, with pubs and shops nearby
A small site with touring pitches and views of open countryside, Lime Tree Caravan Park is on the edge of the sleepy village of Ratcliffe Culey, on the border between Leicestershire and Warwickshire. The Sence brook burbles along the boundary of the field, and you can soon be out enjoying rural strolls along the riverbank and across the surrounding fields. This site itself is in a quiet setting on working farmland, ideal for family holidays, relaxing couples’ breaks or last-minute escapes. It’s level and well drained, with easy vehicle access and spacious pitches; the perfect combination for a hassle-free break. Even better, there are individual electric hookups for each pitch as well as water mains points. Well-maintained facilities include a toilet block with two toilets and two showers plus a laundry, and there are modern security gates at the entrance of the site for your absolute peace of mind. Because of its limited number of toilets and showers, Lime Tree Caravan Park recommends bringing your own facilities if you can. If you’re after a break from cooking, try out the pub in Ratcliffe Culey (five minutes’ walk) or head to historic Atherstone (five minutes’ drive) for a choice of takeaways and handy stores if you prefer to go down the self-catering path.

Local attractions

If you want to get out and about on foot, head for the hills in Hartshill Hayes Country Park (15 minutes’ drive) for far-reaching views across Leicestershire. Bosworth Water Park (10 minutes) is a top spot for dinghy sailing and swan boat rentals, and if you’re stuck for something to do on a rainy day, hone your parallel turns or take a novice skiing lesson at the SnowDome (20 minutes) in Tamworth. Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (15 minutes) combines bracing walks with history displays, and you can also view the 1485 battleground from the comfort of a Battlefield Line Railway (15 minutes) train. If you still haven’t had your fill of culture, tour Tamworth Castle (20 minutes), a medieval hotspot with re-enactments and kids’ workshops. If all that history talk leaves the kids grumpy, take pity on them and plan a day out to see silverback gorillas at Twycross Zoo (10 minutes). If that doesn’t cheer them up, then Drayton Manor Theme Park (20 minutes) may be the answer, for its Thomas the Tank Engine-themed rides. Meanwhile, most older kids will lap up a chance to see rockets and satellites at the National Space Centre (40 minutes).

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Lots of long walks nearby. We walked the 6 mile round trip to Atherstone! The toilet and showers were very clean. Small site - was almost full when we went but everyone was very friendly.

Disliked: The village pub was closed down! Not the sites fault though.

Liked: Loved the layout of the site, not overcrowded and a lovely dog walk field behind. Lovely toilets and showers that were very clean. Also Rosemary (owner) was lovely popped over to say hi etc when we had pitched up and was there for anything we needed.

Disliked: Only one toilet so had to wait sometimes
