  • Well-kept, family-run and friendly park on the Welsh border
  • Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside
  • On a seven-acre smallholding 15 miles from Chester
Ladies, gents, solo travellers, couples, kids and the dog have quite the pick of places to roam around when staying at popular Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park near Whitchurch, as it's on the border of Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire with several days'/weeks' worth of activities and attractions in each. There'll be a rather warm welcome on site too from Pam, Richard and the team, who take pride in making their family-run park somewhere guests want to come back to. Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park is on a refined, peaceful and well-maintained seven-acre smallholding, which comes with first-class vistas of the surrounding Shropshire countryside and excellently-kept amenities. The pitches are decently sized and all have their own water supply and electric. Amenities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area (these all updated for the 2021 season), plus a fridge and freezer, a kettle, a hairdryer, and a washing machine and dryer (small extra charge applies). Barbecues are allowed on site: for supplies, the market town of Whitchurch is about six miles to the east, while Wrexham is about 10 minutes' drive west.

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked: This is our 3rd time visiting this wonderful, family friendly campsite and will we be returning?? Absolutely! Pam & Richard are always so friendly and very accommodating to anything you may need. They helped lots of caravan's / cars this weekend that got stuck in the mud and arranged for a local tractor to come and pull them out! The site is small and perfect for families, couples and solo travellers! Pitches are level and well maintained, each having an electric and water point which is very handy :) Facilities are always clean tidy and always plenty of hot water. We didn't struggle for showers or toilets during our stay. Area is quiet and has some lovely local walks, not too far from shops either only a short drive. We love the fact this site is dog friendly, we can't wait to return in the summer! :)

Disliked: Absolutely nothing!

From the manager: Hi Steph, well what a lovely review and thank you for taking time to write it. Easter Friday was quite challenging with all the wet weather we have had, but everyone pulled together and it meant we didn’t need to close the site and spoil everyone holiday weekend. We really look forward to you returning again over the summer when (let’s hope) we get some warm and sunny weather. Best wishes Pamela and Richard

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked: We love this camp site! This was our 3rd time camping here as a family of 4 and would definitely recommend. We camped over the Easter weekend - it was a little muddy but that was expected due to the rain. Toilets/showers always cleaned and stocked up. Peaceful and only a short drive to shops. Pamela and Richard are wonderful owners and we had a fabulous time as always. We will be looking forward to return in the summer months :)

Disliked: Nothing!

From the manager: Hey Nicole, thank you so much for this lovely review, we really do appreciate you taking time to leave feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back for the 4th visit sometime over the warmer summer months. Best regards Richard and Pamela

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked: Everything! The weather made everything muddy but the owners ensured the showers were clean and tidy at all times, always plenty of toilet roll, ground great considering the weather! Pamela and Richard were very friendly as always! WiFi great, pitches are large and water points at most pitches, along with Electric hook up! Nothing is too much trouble for them ! See you again soon xx

Disliked: Nothing! The weather… nothing the owners can do about!

From the manager: Hi Samantha, many thanks for the review. The Bank Holiday weekend weather was pretty good, it was the days leading up to Easter that was very wet, which made the ground pretty poor. We are delighted you will visit our site again, sometime soon. Best regards Richard and Pamela

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Wonderfully quiet, If you like peace and Quiet then this is the ideal location. Beautifully clean and well maintained. Owners very helpful and friendly

Disliked: No pathway to toilet block. Not ideal in rain. Entrance to toilet/Shower block got quite Muddy, Hardstanding pitches could do with being a bit wider, We only just fitted in the space,

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The owners - very welcoming and friendly. Very accommodating to our requests. Facilities were great (washer/dryer etc). Toilets and showers clean and tidy. Great location.

Disliked: Not so much a dislike but was a shame the weather had resulted in the grassed areas between the pitches becoming a mud bath. Despite this I can imagine in the dryer summer months it would be lovely and wouldn't stop us from visiting again!

Local attractions

This be Roman country: nearby Whitchurch was founded by the rampaging lot around the time of Caesar (the first), on a main Roman road between Chester and Wroxeter. Chester, one of the main Roman towns, is about 40 minutes' drive from Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park and has a Roman amphitheatre to see as well as Roman remains and a museum at Dewa Roman Experience. Fans of other history periods also come to Chester to see its medieval and black and white buildings and its Grade I listed city walls, among the best preserved city walls in Britain, and the 11th-century Chester Cathedral. Back near base, stop off at the well-kept Whitchurch Heritage Centre to see some more Roman remains alongside exhibits and galleries taking the town up to modern times. Around the streets, make time too for the Clock Trail or one of the other several town trails: most fortuitously, most pass a pub… Also anciently, several castles, historic houses and National Trust properties are within conquerable driving distance – Chirk Castle, Erddig Hall in Wrexham, Combermere Abbey, Cholmondeley Castle and Bolesworth Castle just to start you off. All have regular events, including an international show jumping event at Bolesworth, and a Pageant of Power, Pony Club Championships and garden openings at Cholmondeley. Here to hike? Five long-distance walking trails start from Whitchurch's Jubilee Park, including the Shropshire Way which runs along to the Llangollen Canal, crossing the border between England and Wales. The Sandstone Trail, 34 miles through Cheshire and Shropshire, starts and finishes in the town. Other sights and sites nearby are Shrewsbury and the follies at Hawkstone Park about 20 miles away, and the early nineteenth century Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carrying the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee, a World Heritage Site with the wondrous Horseshoe Falls. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is about an hour and a quarter's drive away.
