General

  • Small peaceful site in scenic surroundings
  • Miles of quiet, flat country lanes to explore by bike
  • Dog-walking area and 1940s vintage bikes for hire

Located in a peaceful and remote location in Whixall, Abbey Green Farm is a small family-run site set in the countryside for peace and relaxation.

The farm is a short drive from Wem (three miles away) and Whitchurch (seven miles away), making it a handy base for cycling, walking and exploring the Shropshire countryside. The grounds have scenic gardens as well as a large area for walking dogs. Afternoon teas are served in the gardens for an additional charge.

Abbey Green has clean toilets, free hot showers in a newly-built luxury shower block, a laundry room and a new indoor washing-up area. There are also a number of vintage 1940s restored bicycles for hire, and new play equipment for kids was added in 2017.

The site is two miles from the popular Dog and Bull pub serving tasty food and a good selection of ales.

Stunning view. Lovely pitch. Excellent facilities. Rose was so friendly and went out of her way to make us feel welcome and the afternoon tea was to die for. We will definitely come back. Just can’t recommend this enough

Everything. The Farm is excellent, could not fault it. The facilities were marvellous, beautifully clean, welcoming and in an idyllic, peaceful location. Rose and Phillip were very friendly, welcoming and could not do enough for you. In fact, Rose made some freshly pressed beetroot juice for my husband who was struggling with a bad cough etc. Thank you Rose. It was very tasty, she also made us a loaf to take home!!! How caring is that. It was much appreciated. Please try Abbey Green Farm, you will not be disappointed. Top value for money too.

This really is a beautiful place and the owner Rose could not be more welcoming and hospitable.

It is a small site with pitches dotted around Rose's large garden, and there is an attached field where our dogs enjoyed bounding through the long grass.

We ordered afternoon tea which was delivered to the caravan and was worth every penny.

If you are looking for an intimate, welcoming site in the Shropshire countryside, then we cannot recommend this site highly enough.

Impeccable showers, spotless washroom. The site owners are very friendly, the site is quite isolated yet only a 2mile walk to nearest pub and only a short drive from various locations. During the morning of our departure we only had 2 cars a cycling group and few ramblers go passed the campsite. Great place for dog walking I think.

Loved the location, and the Farm is a dream, it is so neat, tidy and beautiful...so heavenly quiet at night! wish we would have had 2 nights! The kids loved the sheep "next door" and being right by the play ground, the Facilities room was perfect for them to hide from the rain whilst packing up and they loved the toys they found under the table.
Would definitely recommend and hope to return with bikes to explore the lanes :)

    Not a lot!

    Disliked:

I was contacted just before our visit and asked if I was still intending to attend as there had been a lot of rain and the grass pitches had been waterlogged. I was told there was a hard standing area behind one of the farm buildings. When we arrived, the hard standing area was a tatty area of concrete with some scrap farm machinery on it. Our caravan would have just fitted on this but one side would have been right next to a brick wall and the door would have opened onto said scrap pile. There was nobody there to greet us so I phoned the owner. After a bit of discussion she magnanimously agreed to refund our money. I have now discovered that she has refunded some but not all of our money - I will be speaking to Trading Standards regarding this matter!

From the manager...

When I contacted you on the morning of your arrival I explained that due to the very wet Spring this year, it would not be possible for you to pitch on our camping field. I explained that we don't have any hard standing pitches, however there is a area of concrete at the rear of one of our buildings which you could use.
I also explained in the phone call that I may not be there when you arrived.
When you arrived, you phoned me to inform me that you were not happy with your location. I explained that I was 10 minutes away. Unfortunately rather than wait for me to return and try to resolve your grievances, you chose to leave.
We have had large caravans and motorhomes on this area on previous weekends without any issues, so are confused by your comments.
The 'scrap' you mentioned is actually vintage farm machinery.
As a gesture of goodwill your payment was refunded, minus the booking deposit - as you booked via Pitchup and this is not refundable - as explained in Pitchup's terms and conditions.
