General

  • Small peaceful site in scenic surroundings
  • Miles of quiet, flat country lanes to explore by bike
  • Dog-walking area and 1940s vintage bikes for hire

Located in a peaceful and remote location in Whixall, Abbey Green Farm is a small family-run site set in the countryside for peace and relaxation.

The farm is a short drive from Wem (three miles away) and Whitchurch (seven miles away), making it a handy base for cycling, walking and exploring the Shropshire countryside. The grounds have scenic gardens as well as a large area for walking dogs. Cream teas are served in the gardens for an additional charge.

Abbey Green has clean toilets, free hot showers in a newly-built luxury shower block, a laundry room and a new indoor washing-up area. There are also a number of vintage 1940s restored bicycles for hire, and new play equipment for kids was added in 2017.

The site is two miles from the popular Dog and Bull pub serving tasty food and a good selection of ales.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

All campers must bring their own electric hook-up leads.

What a gem! From the warm hospitality of the owners, the quaint toilet block (I've never camped with an electric shower and hot water in abundance) to the fantastic beauty of the site and the surrounding area, this was a great little find

Welcoming countryside site with spotlessly clean homely bathrooms 17/08/2017

We've found at many sites we've been to that when other reviewers say the owners are friendly what they really mean is friendly in the bar, or smile nicely in the shop, but Rose and Phil clearly get enormous satisfaction from running their site and seeing to it that every guest has a great break. They really are friendly, born to be hosts, and enjoy running and maintaining their immaculately-kept site and surrounding grounds.

It is a small site of maybe two dozen pitches and the grass is cut and maintained as neatly as the two home-like bathrooms are cleaned. As it is a small site, every pitch is near the purpose built toilet/shower, washing-up and laundry utility building. There are lots of suggested walks and activities displayed on the wall in the utility block, too.

Most reviews previous to mid-August 2017 marked the site down only on the WiFi but that's been improved with better coverage reaching further now: our pitch near the entrance gate was about as far from the farmhouse and utility block as pitches go, and we had a perfect 3/5 bar WiFi signal in the tent.

    Disliked:

Not at all the site's fault, but we had no mobile signal with EE or Three, though did get a 4G signal using O2. Of course, we didn't go camping to stay connected with phones and work, but there is the WiFi if you need to be connected.

Amazing site. Lovely surrounding area, a quiet camp site with lovely hosts, who couldn't do enough for you. they have extra long cables for you to lend at no extra cist. They even take orders for breakfast and afternoon tea.
The only thing letting the campsite down where the lack of toilets and showers. They have 2 bathrooms which were lovely (just like you own bathroom). If the campsite was full there would possibly be an issue. Overall we loved it and would recommend.

    Disliked:

This is a lovely little campsite. The toilets and showers were spotless. We only stayed 1 night as a stopover between Alton Towers and Oswestry but was a very peaceful and pleasant campsite and if we are in the area again would not hesitate in staying there again.
