General

  • Working farm campsite at the foot of Wenlock Edge
  • Miles of National Trust and wildlife walks from the site entrance
  • Coarse fishing pools, free wifi and home-produced farm meats available

250 acres of Shropshire countryside, spectacular views from the Stretton Hills to the Wrekin, miles of walks straight from the site, and all a smooth 10 minutes’ drive from Ironbridge Gorge and 20 from Shrewsbury: location lovers should very much like Lower Hill Camp Site.

Family-run by Rita and her team, friendly and popular Lower Hill Camp is a working farm with a menagerie of animals to see (and a good selection of sausages and burgers to buy for the firepit or barbie) and plenty more wild animals including deer and badgers in the surrounding countryside. Miles of National Trust and wildlife walks start from the site entrance; if you’re a type who goes the distance, the Severn Way is within easy reach.

The farm has coarse fishing pools available for guests: the campsite pool by the farmhouse, and the wood pool at the lower end of the site, suitable for more earnest anglers and stocked with large carp, bream, tench, roach, gudgeon, barbel and perch.

Farm facilities include toilets, showers with hot water, free wifi and ice pack freezing.

Please note

We do not accept single-sex groups of more than four people under 25 years of age.

Amazing views of the hills and valley. Pods were incredibly clean and in a great location. There's a little play area for kids and a Forrest near by to walk in. The pod came with it's own fire pit and picnic table which was really good. There was even a fishing pong on side but we forgot our rods so couldn't use it. The bathrooms had their own showers attached which was nice. There was also a donkey and horse roaming around which was nice for the kids.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but just a few things that could have made it even better, being able to rent rods, maybe a bit more space in between the pods or some bushes just to make it a bit more private. Being able to buy wood for a fire on site would have been a nice touch.

The yurt had good kitchen equipment and the memory foam mattresses for the kids were very comfy. There was also a box with kids books and colouring pencils which was a nice touch.

    Disliked:

No welcoming pack in the yurt with information about the campsite, there was signs up in the toilets but it would have been nice to have the information in one place. Whilst we do not disagree with a £20 deposit being taken upon arrival we were not informed previous to travel.

We have just returned from staying in the Barn Owl Yurt at Lower Hill Farm. The Yurt was very spacious, the bed was really comfortable, the 2 pull out beds were also high quality. Kitchen facilities more than adequate. There was a log burner and radiator which made the yurt really cozy. There was even space for a table and chairs. Outside we had a fire pit, picnic table and a gas BBQ.

Barbara and her husband were both really helpful and friendly. The views were great, facilities clean, lots of toilets and showers.

We purchased eggs and meat from the farm which were lovely and got logs for the fire each night.

I travelled with a 7 and 8 year old and they loved it, there was plenty of space outside for them to play, they liked the swings and the woods. There was loads to do around the local area, all less than 20 mins drive. Natural trust and Iron bridge.

I would recommend the yurts to anyone.

    Disliked:

Nothing really, just a small note that our yurt was up a bit of a hill which wasn't an issue for us but worth getting a lower yurt if you have any mobility issues.
I couldn't get on the Wifi, but there were people that could so not really a problem.
