Back to basics camping field in great countryside 22/08/2017

If you like unregulated back-to-basics campsites (as I do) then this is great. A field where you pick your own pitch, no electric hook-up, loo and outdoor sink for washing up - that's it! Five minutes walk to the Nipstones where the view stretches for miles, and llamas in the field next door. Plus - it's cheap as chips compared with many sites.

    Disliked:

Bit muddy when we went and the field isn't super flat, but these are minor gripes.

Friendly site owners, lovely and well-maintained site. Toilets were clean. Some great walks nearby, such as up to the Stiperstones. There are no cars allowed on the field so you park them just outside, if you have lots of stuff to take down you can borrow a wheelbarrow. Lots of animals around the site such as lambs, horses, and alpacas.

    Disliked:

There is a dog kennels next door so there is a fair bit of barking! It didn't disturb me overnight but I heard it in the morning and evening, so bear this in mind if you're looking for a really quiet site.

We really liked this camp site

Lovely location. It is essentially a big field located close to the owners stone cottage.

You can have camp fires which was a real bonus for us. We brought our own wood so we were charged £2 to have a camp fire (£12 in total for 1 night). All you have to do is cut away the grass and replace it before you leave (shovels are available).

The owners Tim and Rachel are very friendly, welcoming and relaxed. They gave us a little tour and offered advice on walks etc.

The walks are peaceful with hardly no-one around. We saw lots of Red Kites on our walk. Very impressive.

There are plenty of parking spaces. You have to carry your gear or use the wheel barrows that are provided as no cars are allowed into the field.

There is a small washroom with a toilet and an additional compost toilet behind it if you want to use that. There are no showers.

We're planning to go back if possible with the rest of the family
