The Balmoral Studio lodge

Liked: There was so much to like about the lodge and the site. The site itself was secure and very quiet with only 6 lodges on there. It was incredibly tranquil and I loved the view over the fishing lake with the ducks walking around. The lodge was very clean and finished to a high standard with beautifully wood carved rustic bed frame, chairs and dining table. The kitchen although compact had everything you could need and had a lovely welcome pack from the site. The bedding, towels & robes provided were beautiful, soft and very decent sizes. There were a number of seats outside that catered for all weather including some on a covered veranda with outdoor heating. It was lovely having the choice of where to sit as you got slightly different views and could always find a spot in sun. The hot tub was lovely and up to temperature on the first night so it could be used straight away. There were useful hooks to hang our robes and a warm outdoor shower by the hot tub. The hot tub was also covered so could be used when raining.

The Balmoral Studio lodge

Liked: Amazing stay. The hot tub was ready when we arrived, the cabin was lovely and warm, complimentary wine and chocolate were very much appreciated. The ducks roaming around the lake was a delight to wake up to and they even came over to say hello. Entering the site and the lodge was so easy.

Local attractions

Fancy gawking at some spectacular architecture? There’s plenty to spy half an hour's drive away at Hawkestone Park Follies, which was built as a fantasy theme park in the 18th century, and the spectacular Attingham Park (40 minutes). More functional (but still fancier than your average house) are Whittington Castle and Chirk Castle – both within 20 minutes; you might also catch a glimpse of a narrowboat crossing the towering Chirk or Pontcysyllte aqueducts. Anyone drawn in by dabbling in history may wish to make the 50-minute trip to Ironbridge Gorge: the site’s got a bevy of historical attractions to explore, from a reconstructed Victorian town to the world’s first cast-iron bridge, built in 1779 to cross the Severn. Build a bridge from past to present with a stop at the British Ironwork Centre, 20 minutes from base, where visitors can take part in blacksmithing, silversmithing and ceramics workshops, stroll the sculpture garden metal safari and mosey around the showrooms. You could also get a glimpse of rural living by meeting the animals and helping to groom the horses at Park Hall Countryside Experience (15 minutes), or opt for the urban instead with a trip to Shrewsbury (40 minutes) or a day wandering the streets of Chester, 45 minutes from the site.
