General

  • Small no-frills site on a working farm in the Shropshire Hills
  • Half an hour's drive from Ludlow and Ironbridge Gorge
  • Paths lead from the farm to Jack Mytton Way on Wenlock Edge

The Coates Farm is a small no-frills site next to a stream, in the grounds of a farm in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The farm, which grows wheat and barley as well as keeping cows and sheep, is five miles from Church Stretton and seven miles from Much Wenlock.

The hills around this area were known in Victorian times as 'Little Switzerland', and it's still a popular area for walkers now. Three footpaths and a bridleway run through the farm and up onto the slopes of Wenlock Edge, allowing walkers, cyclists and horse riders to join the main path known as Jack Mytton Way.

For eating, there's a country pub a mile from the site and several more within a short drive. More restaurants, cafés, pubs and a supermarket can be found in Church Stretton. The small town of Ludlow, 12 miles away, has become known as a foodie mecca in recent years and is now home to all sorts of businesses from Michelin-rated restaurants to family-run delis.

Guest facilities at the farm include a tennis court, picnic benches and firebowls.

Among the other amenities are recycling bins, a cold water tap and washing-up area. The toilet and shower are next to the farmhouse, a short walk from the camping field.

Only one bathroom which meant having to wait sometimes, but hardly a big complaint

Nothing really I knew what we had booked, but if you don't your own facilities are a must. 1wc and shower for everyone means no hot waster after 1st person has showered and always a queue.
