South Shropshire's first locally built camping pods are now open at The King's Head in the centre of the market town of Bishop's Castle. The town has a strong agricultural community as well as becoming known for its alternative community including artists, musicians, writers and craftspeople.
Our camping pods are made just down the road at Shepherd's Huts and Huts from locally sourced timber. With an internal floor space of eight feet wide by nine feet long, each pod can sleep up to four adults. Our pods are set just behind the pub within our very own secluded pod pound, which is covered in bark chippings sourced from our nearby surroundings.
Each pod has been insulated to keep them warm in the colder months and cool in the warmer months. To the front, there is a lockable double-glazed door providing natural light and to the rear, a small circular double-glazed window that provides natural light and helps to keep the living space ventilated and allows a through draft on hot summer days.
All our pods are connected to mains electricity to provide a small wall-mounted heater, two double sockets and a single spotlight inside each one. There is a roller blind on the front door and a carpet to cover the flooring. Externally there is a spotlight on the front porch as well as security lighting that illuminates the pod pound at night.
With our camping pods being in such a great central location, visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking, walking, cycling, angling or just chill out in a great natural setting with the birds singing or the stars above their heads.
Visitors are able to enjoy the romance of camping without the stress of pitching a tent and enduring the great British weather. The appeal of the camping pod is that it is essentially camping, but without the tent.
Here are just some of the reasons why you should try glamping here at The King's Head: everything is already set up when you get there, you just move straight in! All you need to bring is your own camping mat and bedding. You avoid the adverse effects of driving rain or the chore of taking down and drying wet tents, and there is no wind whip or flapping to keep you awake at night. You also have more privacy and security and you can enjoy all the benefits of an insulated structure in both winter and summer. There's even the option of having heat, light and other electrical devices. Last but not least, it offers affordable accommodation in the centre of a fabulous town! Within the pod pound there is also a purpose-built toilet block with ladies' and gents' toilet, washbasin and communal shower cubicle.
