General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a footgolf course. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including outdoor table tennis, a volleyball/badminton court, a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Quiet time of the year so probably the very best circumstances in which to stay. Shower/toilet block clean which is my main concern, though water temperature was a little inconsistent. Staff friendly and helpful, shop lightly stocked but a large Morrisons is a short drive, cycle away. Recommended

Plenty of activities in lovely surroundings. We stayed in an "arch" in the camping area which was basic, bring your own beds/bedding etc, but had plenty of room for the 2 of us and was very warm. It was also very quiet at night so a good nights sleep was guaranteed.

    Disliked:

The toilet facilities were very clean but only had 3, (one disabled) toilets and 3 showers which when the site was relatively busy was very inadequate.
