General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths/would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, mini golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a newly created footgolf course.

There's also an assault course, country walks and nature zones on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragon boat racing and triathlons.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the shire countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park.

The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a sandpit, outdoor table tennis and netball, play areas on the site and in the main country park, and a nature trail to explore just a short stroll away.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Handy for the White water centre and the pods are warm. Pitches are well spaced out. Staff helpful and friendly. Helpful that you can collect and leave the keys at the hotel reception down the road.

    Disliked:

no paving up to the pods which meant mud was everywhere, no hard standing or gravel area to park your car outside the pods, as it was so wet and muddy cars where getting stuck on the grass.
Toilet and shower block was not warm enough and the shower cubicles are very small and cramped. The site is quite big and in the event of it being full 1 toilet/shower block would not be sufficient.

Great site really. Wasn’t expecting too much as the price was really great however we were pleasantly surprised. Park on site, hard standing pitches and electric hook up. Loads to see and do close by and city centre 5-10 mins drive away. Wollaton Hall and Nottingham Castle a must. Will defy stay again.

    Disliked:

Very muddy on grass areas but to be expected really as it was a typically wet February. Didn’t put us off

Really liked the pod, was warm and comfortable (especially given the epic wind and rain). Easy to get to from the white water centre.

    Disliked:

Parking wasn't obvious and there seemed to be very little hard standing, which would have been totally fine if the weather wasn't so bad, so it meant we couldn't put the car on the grass.

Some areas a bit muddy but expected at this time of year.
Nice flock of Canadian Geese ambling around the site which we liked

Once and NEVER AGAIN!!! EVER!! 23/01/2018

  • Electric hardstanding touring pitch

  • Liked:

Pitch requested near the facilities due to mobility needs, which was accomodated.
    Open space (fields)
Excellent service from 'Sam' on switchboard @ National Water Sports centre

    Disliked:

Arrived at 16.30 Friday and check-in Shut!
Aware its out of season, but this wasn't the best start? Had to ring switchboard and get booking confirmation and barrier/facility codes.
Was navigated to pitch over the phone, found said pitch which was flooded even though they are ment to be hard standing!?
Rang switch board again and allowed to choose a pitch future from facilities but better.
Went to fill up drinking water, however found all water points are centred in fields, NO facility for Motorhomes! Why take bookings???
Found the last one nearer the road, but as i have a coachbuild so had to angle her over grass and road, and immediately sunk! (My fault), and weather! Got stuck, rang switchboard for help/wood planks. First was advised by duty manager that I had to call my recovery out myself, after not accepting this he made his way to assess the situation. Another camper came to help, but even without moving she was getting deeper. Eventually Duty manager arrived and we rocked her out!
Ended up using bottled water for the duration.
Facilities were average, but shower cubicle lighting didnt work, so once you shut the cubicle door your in darkness!
Another camper told me they had reported this at the start of the week but still, the mens and womens shower cubicles had no lighting!
The campsitethen got the invasion of the ducks/geese, a few are fine but with the mount that were there, 150+ bird mess was in every field/road/ section. It was hop scotch walking to the bins or facities.
I was more concerned my dogs would step in it so went for walks by the road side. Shame really we couldn't enjoy the fields or walks around site.
I normally take the good with the not so good, being a camper for over 14 years, you build a resilience, but ive never expierienced anything like this before. Generally felt the campsite was setup and left to its own devices! The pictures on pitch may have been at the begining, but its very, very far from it now.
Needless to say once and NEVER EVER again!!
