General

  • Small friendly farm with good local amenities
  • Five minutes from the market town of Retford
  • 20 minutes from Sherwood Forest and close to Sundown Adventureland

There's lots to like about Longholme Farm five minutes from the Nottinghamshire market town of Retford: its welcome is warm, its camping area spacious and its location smashing, 20 minutes from the Robin Hood-based shenanigans of Sherwood Forest and close to both Sundown Adventureland and the outdoor water splash area of King's Park.

Longholme is a smallholding in the Nottinghamshire countryside welcoming all types of guests as well as well-behaved pets. It's run by very friendly and helpful Gail and Steve, who are always on hand with tips and info about the local area, including eateries nearby for all tastes and budgets, the good local transport links and the many outdoor activities in the area.

Only a small number of pitches are allowed on Longholme's four-acre field, so you'll have plenty of space and can pitch wherever you like. Toilets and showers are available for guests.

Retford five minutes away has a weekly market, a Thursday and Saturday general market, a Friday antiques and collectibles market, and a farmers' market once a month. Three large supermarkets are within easy reach of the farm.

Simply unbelievable. I had a truly wonderful stay & could not have been made more welcome - I felt like an old friend. The Toilets & showers were sparkling, but with loads of rustic character and even some local area pencil drawings on walls, which are fascinating. Lovely flat area, with loads of space. Washing up facilities & even though I never used any of it, I could see it was totally wired for electricity etc. Steve & Gail are a lovely couple, as are other regular folks on site, such as Amanda & Mark. I would recommend this to anyone & will
    Thank you, I'll be back.

An excellent family friendly campsite. The park, two trampolines, football pitch, hay stack & bikes certainly kept our 3 children (13, 6 & 4) happy. There was a lovely community feel on the campsite & the field felt secure so we could let our children play whilst we relaxed outside our tent, they loved the freedom (& playing out until after dark).

The toilet/shower facilities were always clean & the showers were lovely & warm.

There was karaoke in the barn on Sat night, we're not singers so we just had a drink & enjoyed the entertainment. Our 4 year old daughter loved having a dance.

The owners are lovely and welcoming. The site has a great family vibe and i felt confident that even with one child with special needs that they could run and play safely. Bikes, trampolines, climbing frame, water slide etc are all a really nice touch to a site that feels natural to stay at. Nice remote farm vibe as well and great atmosphere with other campers and their children. Karaoke and Bbq was also really nice bringing campers out of their tents for a nice evening together. Good location, close to lots of tourist places though, to be honest, we were so chilled out at the site we didn't really want to go anywhere often. Owners allow shopping and takeaways to be delivered to the site which is nice to have that option especially if you have come to the site by train for one of the rent a tents. We have stayed at many sites where i wouldn't know who the owner was or who to contact if there was a problem, no problem here, the owners introduced themselves on arrival and are visible frequently! Great hosts!

    Disliked:

Nothing. Can't fault our experience at all. We really enjoyed every minute of our stay. Kids have said it's the best site we have stayed at and we have stayed at quite a few over the last few years.

So sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us, but we do have 3 toilets (not holes in the floor) and 2 showers and we never have 40 pitches available, plus I have hundreds of families that would say we are child friendly, and it is irelavant that you decided to stay in your car rather than your tent it's £20 per night none ehu, and I am offended that you gave me 2/10 for cleanliness as my facilities have been rated 10/10 by everyone that has visited, please don't visit again as we are not what you are looking for, (I hear Kensington palace is a really nice place)
Kind regards steve

Steve is a perfect "host". He is available whenever he is needed but doesn't make a nuisance of himself. The site and facilities are perfect for what we wanted and needed. Clean toilet/shower block with plenty of hot water. Pitches are not marked out as Steve intends that you can take as much or as little room as you require. This works extremely well and makes for a lovely friendly site.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning.

The space afforded so that the kids can run around, climb hay bales, play football, free to use bikes/scooters and the swings/climbing frame. You can let the kids run free, site is safe with no public access.

Although in Retford you feel as if you're miles from anywhere, you have to listen carefully and hope the wind is in the right direction to vaguely hear a train from the track a couple of miles away, this place is wonderfully quiet save the sounds of the kids having fun.

Pitch anywhere, choose your view, mingle with others or be on your own it's your choice. No extras for awnings, pup tents, kids or those annoying taxes that big tents seem to attract.

Been three times this year and will be back a few more, Steve and Gail couldn't be more welcoming or accommodating!!
