General

  • With six lakes and the River Idle alongside for fishing
  • Regular match venue for coarse fishing, 30 minutes from Sherwood
  • Tackle shop, central amenities and café and licensed restaurant

Spectacular fishing with mighty scenic views... cast off at Nottinghamshire's Hallcroft Fishery and Caravan Park for angling in seven waters on a spacious and well-equipped park.

Six lakes are at your fishing disposal here, along with yet more angling in the River Idle which runs alongside the site. You can land bream, eels, roach, tench, perch and varying types of carp at these, including at the huge Moat lake which is a regular venue for matches around its 190 pegs; if you fancy your hand at procuring pike, the river's the place to be. And if you need tackle, kit, bait or any angling advice, a shop for the same is right on site.

Hallcroft is two and a half miles from East Retford, about 40 minutes' drive from Newark and half an hour from Sherwood Forest. You can stay solely on site should you so wish: the Kingfisher café and restaurant dishes up full English breakfasts, tea, coffee and toast to sort sustenance before a day's fishing; hot snacks are available some lunchtimes, and evening meals are on offer for after your angling. The restaurant is licensed, to serve boozy beverages during standard pub hours, and a pool table and darts board are to hand too.

There are showers and toilets in the centre of the site, part of a good range of amenities including recycling, chemical disposal, a washing-up area and gas cylinder sales.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Could be better, needs work to warrant price 09/05/2018

Picturesque views, peacefull, plenty of space, big pitches, new toilet block, good electric bollards with convenient water taps. Security gate at night, nature reserve and river next to site, fishing if that's your thing

    Disliked:

Entrance past sewage works and recycling centre then down pot holes track, better road once in but car park by fishing shop is not the most speaking, No one about when we got there tea time on a bank holiday weekend, had to find own pitch, no signs directing you to toilet block which are a long walk from touring pitches, no bins near pitches only a overflowing skip behind fishing shop , elsan is also next to fisherman's toilets was so far had to take car to empty toilet, never found grey waste point. Grass pitches are not level so bring your blocks. If taking children be aware there is nothing for kids to do and because of lakes you will have to watch them constantly. Payed £85 for 3 nights overpriced, can see why was half empty on Bank holiday weekend.

Not good at all i thought this would be ideal for me as i like my fishing yes they are 6 lakes but only was allowed to fish on small lake as there was fishing matches on all the others every day and the lake we was allowed to fish well i have seen bigger fish been taken out of a dyke by children with fishing nets, also the site is not pegged out properly there in no organisation asked the guy in the tackle shop where to park and he shrugged his shoulders and said where ever you want. on the web site it say facilities cafe bar, yes there is but its only open for the match fishermen over wise
it is never open overall its more like a travellers site no facilities what so ever and over priced will not be going back again come home two days early what a waste of our time keep well away

Would be good for fishermen who want to spend all day fishing but very little otherwise.
Helpful staff in the shop. Quiet and peaceful, especially at night. Well signposted from main road, plenty of dog-walking areas. Made an effort to provide showers and toilets with use of a reconditioned static caravan, with disabled access. Plenty of accessible water and electric points which is a plus.

    Disliked:

Looks like a building site, piles of rubbish lying around the site, piles of hardcore, no-one to greet us or check in with on arrival (after 6pm). Sited behind a rubbish tip. Lack of bins, and could do with a children's play area. No idea where the motorhome service point was as it wasn't on the map or signed anywhere. Access roads are terrible full or huge potholes/craters and at £25 per night I would expect way more for my money. If I had booked a club site for this money, then the site and facilities would have been top notch, rather than make-do. This site is little more than £12-14 per night quality. If i had paid thsi amount I would have been satisfied.

Local attractions

After your angling, take the kids to Sundown Adventureland, (20 minutes' drive), a theme and play park for under-10s with rides and attractions of all sorts including an intriguingly-named ostrich safari ride. (You may or may not opt to let the kids know a pet shop is at the park too.)

For a calmer time, the National Trust and Grade I-listed Clumber Park is 25 minutes from Hallcroft, for peaceful potters around its 3,800 acres. It's the former home of the Duke of Newcastle, so ponder on how the other half live during your scenic strolls, or hire a bike to pedal around the woodland and lake.

National Cycle Route 6 connects Clumber Park with fab Sherwood Forest, along a path of almost seven miles. If you'd prefer to stay closer to home, Hallcroft is next to the biking and hiking of the Idle Valley Nature Reserve, an excellent birdwatching spot.

Must see

  • Sherwood Forest Country Park (10.4 miles)
  • Bolsover Castle (16.0 miles)
  • Mansfield Museum (16.9 miles)
