  • Friendly, quiet site with roomy grass campervan and caravan pitches
  • A 10-minute drive from Boston for boat trips to the east coast
  • Next door to a nine-hole golf course; hot tub bookable on site
Find yourself in a friendly little haven at Wild Acorns, which has generously sized campervan and caravan pitches just outside the Lincolnshire town of Boston (10 minutes’ drive). While this site is on the simpler side of the staycation spectrum, levelling up on luxury while sleeping under the stars is possible here by booking the hot tub for 24 hours. There’s also a woodfired pizza oven for conjuring up cracking meals and a kids’ play area so you can get the tiddlers out of the way while crafting edible extravaganzas. As for activities, the park is next to a nine-hole golf course and there are oodles of trails for cycling, running and walking locally. If you need a bit of insider info on the best places to go, the owners are happy to suggest routes – just grab them at a convenient time and ask to pick their brains. Trails they’re most likely to recommend include the Water Rail Way on the former Boston to Lincoln train line, or maybe a sculpture path inspired by the works of Tennyson. After outdoorsy pursuits, freshen up back on base in the showers at the bathroom block – it’s set inside a repurposed shepherd’s hut – perhaps swinging by Swineshead (10 minutes) on your way home to stock up on supplies at the village store and farm shop. There’s also a hobby shop and a couple of Grade I and II-listed buildings with fascinating stories behind them if you fancy lingering a little longer here.

Squirrel non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The hosts were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Fran was a superb host helping pump our air bed up which saved us a lot of hassle. She also let the kids make their own pizza which was a special little extra. The play area was perfect to keep the kids entertained whilst we set up and packed away. Such a clean and friendly place. Definitely a home from home. Thankyou so much for our wonderful stay. You guys are doing a great job.

Angela's Rest shepherd's hut

Liked: - Comfortable bed - En-suite facilities - The whole interior - Quiet location - Christmas decorations put up by the owners - Kitchen area - Electric heater to keep it warm day and night - A nice space to spend the weekend!

Disliked: - TV not tuned - I didn’t watch it much so it didn’t affect my stay, but others may want to watch a variety of channels; - The shower basin, bathroom sink and kitchen sink were not clean - the shower had debris in the bottom and the kitchen sink had food stains up the side. Again, this wasn’t a massive deal for me personally, but other guests may feel uncomfortable due to the current climate; - There is no wifi picked up at shepherds hut as advertised (unless it was off or not working at the time). Could be a drawback if you arrived and relied on this, for children’s devices or working etc; - Finding the site itself. The postcode on the listing is a very long road, and on a dark wintery night, it’s very difficult to find a specific house when many properties use names, rather than numbers. Perhaps sending a picture of your house to future guests, and a quick circled Google Maps screenshot, would help guide people for a smoother check-in; - These points are mainly feedback for the owners as it is a lovely place, and I’d like a lot more people to enjoy it without any problems :)

Local attractions

Nearby Boston (10 minutes’ drive) is a small town with medieval roots and markets that have cropped up regularly for the last 450 years. Get to its heart by visiting St Botolph's Church, known as The Stump and climbing up its 365 steps to the top of the tower for glorious views. Craving the coast? Take the Boston Belle boat out from the quay towards the North Sea; there are also inland cruises up the River Witham, as well as bracing trips out to spot the seal colony just off the River Welland. Back on dry land, check out the cathedral city of Lincoln (50 minutes) or head to historic homes like Belton (40 minutes) and Burghley (an hour), and the castles of Tattershall (25 minutes) and Belvoir (50 minutes). Another local settlement worth a look is Sleaford (25 minutes), home to the war-themed artefacts at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor’s Centre and the golf courses and outdoor swimming pool of Woodhall Spa.
