General

  • Family and fishing site a mile from Sutton on Sea
  • Seven-acre freshwater fishing in a birdwatching haven
  • Free hot showers, play area and launderette

You’ll grin from ear to ear when you catch sight of the fishing lake at Lincolnshire’s Lakeside Springs: it has a whopping seven acres to tackle, bursting with freshwater specimens that even tiddlers find easy to reel in.

If the thought of free fishing from dawn to dusk is not a lure, other factors at the park might make you bite instead: the birdwatching to be had from the lake’s shores (all sorts of local and migrant birds flutter around this water); the heated swimming pool available to Lakeside guests nearby at its sister park Trusthorpe Springs from May to the beginning of September, and the location, only a mile from the award-winning sands of Sutton on Sea.

Security and facilities are cast-iron on site, with security gates for added safety, free electric showers, washing-up area, launderette, and a play area and returfed grassy space for small fry.

Once you've landed a few dozen fish and spent a day at Sutton-on-Sea, Lakeside Springs is a tiddling distance from other Lincolnshire sandy highlights like Mablethorpe to the north and Skegness to the south. More fish available at both, of course – they go lip-smackingly well with chips…

Really loved this site. There aren't many pitches which makes this site nice. We were welcomed on arrival and shown to our pitch which was a good size with plenty of space in between tents. The toilet and shower block was very clean and just a short distance away.

    Disliked:

We were in a reasonable walking distance to Sutton on Sea which we liked but the only problem was the road which doesn't have a footpath.

There is only one shower. They could do with a second one but I didn't have to wait too long so it wasn't a problem.

The toilet and shower block needs updating! No washing up facilities!!! This let the site down!!!

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving your comments. Although the ablution facilities do meet requirements I am keenly aware they are dated. I have got a programme to modernise these facilities over the coming closed season.
It would appear you may have had an issue with the wi-fi during your stay - I will certainly look into this as our superfast broadband usually provides an excellent service.

This site is lovely and quiet and toilet block 50yds from tent pitches.

    Disliked:

No pots and pans washing facilities had to use toilet sinks. No electric hook up on pitches 4-5 but they do supply extension lead. Only 8 tent pitches but that was a bonus for use as we wanted a quiet break.
Expensive for outdated shower block, only one shower. Cheaper sites nearby.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments and I am progressing a modernisation of the toilet and washing facilities.

Site was well situated, secure, well kept and tidy. Warden helped us pitch up and pointed out where all the facilities were. He was easily contactable via a mobile phone when not in the office, but was also highly visible around the park.

Kids loved the playground which was well situated and safe.

Use of facilities at the sister park was very much appreciated especially the swimming at Trusththorpe.

    Disliked:

Toilet and shower facilities starting to look a little tired and in need of upgrade. This should include pot washing facilities to cater for touring vans.

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit with us at Lakeside Springs. I have programmed the central ablution facility to be refurbished in the 2017 close down to match our sister park facilities at Trusthorpe Springs.

Local attractions

Lakeside Springs is in pole position for Lincolnshire coastline and countryside: the county’s seaside capital Skegness is about ten miles away, and it’s easy to reach inland attractions like the Lincolnshire Wolds and market towns like Alford and Louth.

Sandy Sutton on Sea is quite a bit quieter than its busier neighbours Mablethorpe and Skegness; as well as its Blue Flag beach, dip into the Mapleleaf Paddling Pool paddling pool on the seafront, bowling green or its selection of shops, tearooms and restaurants.

If you've packed the fishing rod, you may as well pack the irons too, to tee off around the 18-hole links golf course at Sandilands, on Sutton on Sea’s southern side and a short walk from Sandilands’s sandy beach.

Say 'Pah' to bringing the car when exploring the Lincolnshire coast: a promenade cycleway runs the couple of miles from Sutton-on-Sea to Mablethorpe, or explorers can hop on the bus outside Sutton’s post office to hop off at all the main seaside stops, including Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards to finish up at Skegness.

Inland, a bus runs regularly from Mablethorpe to the market town of Louth and its esteemed farmers’ market and specialist grocers including award-winning The Cheese Shop (it should be pointed out here that the shop also sells wine and port...).

Louth is known as the ‘capital of the Wolds’ and is one of several market towns and villages surrounding the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The ‘gateway to the Wolds’, Horncastle, is the place to rummage for antiques; Alford is known for its craft market, pottery and its seven-storeyed, five-sailed windmill; Spilsby for its weekly market of local meat and veg; and Market Rasen for its racecourse – although you probably won't be a whit surprised to hear there is a farmers’ market (and thrice-weekly general market) here too.

Naturalists and birdwatchers have stacks to see and do around both coast and countryside after twitching around the lake: the seabirds at Skegness’s Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve are a screamingly good sight; the reserve at Donna Nook comes with a colony of grey seals, and inland, Red Hills Nature Reserve is where to see snakes and lizards and to feel warm-blooded at the adder-ly wonderful views.
