General

  • Peaceful and friendly park in the heart of the Fens
  • Dog-friendly with a huge dog walking field
  • Play area and kids' bar area with games

We’re trying to think who Orchard View Caravan & Camping Park would be most perfect for, but we suspect we’ll run out of space.

For those who like the sound of silence: this is a serene and peaceful park away from noisy A-roads. Scenic sorts: the park is in the heart of the fens, with waterways to explore nearby.

Foodie types: the Fenland villages have all sorts of tasty treats to try – fresh farm produce, rated restaurants, tea rooms, fresh fruit from roadside stalls and Lincolnshire sausages made in the market town Spalding.

Fido: the park is dog-friendly and has a huge (and safe) dog walking field with lots to sniff at. And the little saplings: there's plenty of technology-free space for younger campers to enjoy, with a wooden play area with, a sandpit, swings and a slide. Kids are also welcome in the children's area of the bar with board games, puzzles and supervised use of the pool table.

It’s also one for those who like space and convenience as it’s on a six-acre level site, and for folk who like a bit of a personal touch: owners Ray and Maria are lauded for being two of the friendliest and most helpful campsite people around, as anyone who’s ever had trouble putting up their awning can testify. Maria is even known to sing a little during the free of charge (for residents) evening entertainment if you ask nicely.

Amenities here are bang up-to-date, such as the recently built shower block with free hot showers. There’s a shop just three miles away at Gedney Hill and you’ll find info galore on what to do in the local area in the tourist information cabin and in the bar – or you could just ask Ray and Maria what they recommend - they’ll be happy to help.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Loved it. The site was clean, quiet. Had fantastic facilities, toilets, showers kitchen etc. We got to choose our own pitch. The owners were amazing, very friendly and helpful. The kids loved it, they had a 2 acre field to play, football, a playground, sandpit, the owners even opened the pool table which my son loved. The dog area was fab. Even loved the poor signal amd no wifi as we could properly switch off. We will be back x

Great welcome from Maria and Ray. Given a comprehensive tour of the facilities and shown to site. Really friendly family site with children enjoying themselves and playing on the climbing frame. Offers a 'common room' area that has a bar. Great value for money. Would definitely visit again if in the area or passing through.

Nothing to do on site. nearest shop was over a mile away in Parsons Drove which rarely opened. nearest shop was the post office as well as the nearest pub. The bar on site is closed during the week only opens weekends as for the reception the owners couldn't be found. All in all I wouldn't recommend this site for family,s unless you intended to travel.

Fantastic caravan; good size, clean, tidy, well equipped.
Lovely people! Both the owners and the regulars on the site. Owners can't do enough to help even recommended places to visit, places to eat, chip shop, etc!
Brilliant quiet site in the middle of an incredible, breathtaking, very flat landscape. Perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
Good on site club open at the weekends. Owner even offered to open the room with the pool table in whenever the kids wanted to play. Genuinely nice bloke.

    Disliked:

    Nothing really!
Kids moaned about no WiFi but I think it does them good to be cut off sometimes! You do have to travel wherever you go, even the supermarket is about 8 miles away, but this didn't bother us!

From the manager...

Thank you for such a well thought review, and so pleased you had a wonderful time, that's all we aim for.

    Park safety

    Disliked:

    Cleanliness of sinks and floors
    Lack of phone signal
    Distance to things to do

From the manager...

Thank you Deanna for taking time to review,
yes the rain didnt help with floors, and we can only apologize for sinks being left with water in,as we are at the cleaning routine so often but still can get caught out.
Again ,lack of signal we are unable to do anything about for those on some networks. As you live at the coast and there are lots of close amenities there.in a rural park there is a compromise between peacefulness and close amenities.
But pleased you will visit again to enjoy all the positives, such as owners not staff running the park.

Directions

On the A47 from Peterborough to King's Lynn, take a left at the first roundabout after passing Thorney and the Thorney golf course, you should now be on the B1167, signposted Gedney Hill.

Continue on the B1167 past the golf course, follow a bend to the right and continue with the river on the right for 1.5 miles. Pass the old station house on the left, and at the T-junction turn right onto the B1166 (signposted Wisbech, Parson Drove and Sutton St Edmund). Follow this road for two miles through Throckenholt and take the third left onto Broadgate (caravan sign at the junction). The park is after 3/4 of a mile on the right.

From the north turn off the A17 into Holbeach, go straight at the traffic lights, driving 2.5 miles to Holbeach St. Johns, then turn left at The Plough. After about one mile, turn right at the crossroads into Broadgate. Then drive 2.5 miles through the village and we are one mile on the left.

Local attractions

You’ll need to be active to work off all those Lincolnshire sausages, so take to the unexplored fens on Orchard View’s doorstep for cycling, riverside rambling and horse-riding; aim for the skies with some clay pigeon shooting or get swinging at one of the five local golf courses.

If you’re still a bit full up, some birdwatching or fishing for carp at the nearby lakes should be a more gentle way to spend the day.

Strolling around the shops is also a less strenuous way to work off the calories: Spalding has bargains galore in the Springfield Shopping Outlet and the Springfield Festival Gardens to relax in and gloat over your purchases after a morning spent ringing the tills.

If you're after further entertainment? Then whisk yourself off to Peterborough for shopping, theatre, cinema, sports and swimming, and walks around the parks and river. Then back to Orchard View for a well-earned spot of rest we say...

The market town of Boston is also recommended for savvy shoppers, and if you’re feeling a bit guilty about maxing out the credit cards (we hear this happens to some people occasionally), you can soothe your conscience by taking in historical Boston before loading yourself down with shopping bags: try the Boston Guild Hall and the museum at the Maud Foster Tower Windmill, or move along to Crowland to see the fourteenth century three-sided bridge and the medieval Crowland Abbey.

Thorney Abbey (about a 20-minute drive from the site) and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (just over an hour’s drive north) will give history-loving types plenty more to get stuck in to as well.

There’s also the historic port of King’s Lynn, the castle and museums of Georgian town Wisbech and the stone town of Stamford all within easy exploring reach.

A scenic drive will take you to the towns of Hunstanton and Sandringham, but you can’t come to this part of Lincolnshire without also seeing seaside town Skeggy. It’s not just the seaside, the donkey rides and the funfair: the Natureland Seal Sanctuary at Skegness too – and has tarantulas – and the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve is also well worth a look. And if you've got a taste for sea views, the north Norfolk coast is a short drive away.

Once the kids have recovered from their hair-raising tarantula experience, soothe them with a trip to Fantasy Island up the coast at Ingoldmells. Where, coincidentally enough, there’ll be a chance to go shopping again: with hundreds of stalls, the Eastgate Market is the biggest indoor seven day market in Europe...
