General

  • Peaceful and friendly park in the Lincolnshire Fens
  • Dog-friendly with a huge dog walking field
  • Play area and kids' bar area with games

You might like to ponder on arrival who Orchard View Caravan & Camping Park would be most perfect for, but you might be pondering for some time.

For those who like the sound of silence: this is a serene and peaceful park away from noisy A-roads. Scenic sorts: the park is in the handsome Lincolnshire Fens, with waterways to explore nearby. Foodie types: the Fenland villages have all sorts of tasty treats to try – fresh farm produce, rated restaurants, tearooms, fresh fruit from roadside stalls and Lincolnshire sausages made in the market town Spalding.

And Fido: Orchard View is dog-friendly and has a huge (and safe) dog walking field with lots to sniff at. And finally, the little saplings: there's plenty of technology-free space for younger campers to enjoy, with a wooden play area with, a sandpit, swings and a slide. Kids are also welcome in the children's area of the bar where there are board games, puzzles and supervised use of the pool table.

This is also a spot for those who like space and convenience as it’s on a six-acre level site, and for folk who like a bit of a personal touch: owners Ray and Maria are lauded for being two of the friendliest and most helpful campsite people around, as anyone who’s ever had trouble putting up their awning can testify. Maria is even known to sing a little during the free of charge (for residents) evening entertainment if you ask nicely...

Amenities here are bang up-to-date, such as the recently built shower block with free hot showers. There’s a shop three miles away at Gedney Hill and you’ll find info galore on what to do in the local area in the tourist information cabin and in the bar – or you could just ask Ray and Maria what they recommend - they’ll be happy to help.

Lovely site! Ray and Maria were really friendly and happy to talk about what's going on in the area. :) Toilets were great although quite a walk from the field where the pitches were allocated. There is a licenced bar on site, which we thought was a great idea but didn't use it in the end. Everyone on the site was really relaxed. Theres not a lot to do but we liked that. Felt a bit of charm with this place and will definitely be back again!

We arrived on Good Friday and were met by Ray and Ria. What a lovely helpful couple. We were on a grass pitch next to my daughter and family. The site was quiet and there was a play area for our two grandchildren Freddie 4 and Maddie 2. We used a couple of restaurants from the leaflet given by Ria. A Marstons pub called Cobblestones, food and staff excellent. Also a chinese restaurant called Mama Tree which was also excellent. Both well worth a try.
Ria arranged an Easter egg hunt on the Sunday which the kids really loved. We had coffee and hot cross buns in the club house too. It was all for charity.
We had rain all Sunday evening and most of Monday. Ground was soggy and muddy, but that didn't bother us, we had wellies and a 4x4. Lol. Ray did help a caravan out with his little tractor.
There were plenty of showers and toilets and water was always hot. We had a lovely 4 night stay. Thank you Ray and Ria. x

Excellent site with very friendly owners who couldn’t do enough for their visitors. Although it was a very wet weekend it didn’t stop our fun. We stayed Easter weekend and had a great time doing the Easter egg hunt put on by Ray ans Ria. The quiz on Saturday night was good fun too! Overall a great holiday and we will definitely be returning (maybe when the weather picks up so we can really make the most of the location).

Brilliant!! We were greeted on arrival by Ray, and were shown around. Nothing was too much trouble for him or Ria, even lending us a bottle opener!!!

The little bar/clubhouse was perfect, and you were made to feel like a friend, not a guest. Would definitely recommend this place!!!!!

Directions

On the A47 from Peterborough to King's Lynn, take a left at the first roundabout after passing Thorney and the Thorney golf course, you should now be on the B1167, signposted Gedney Hill.

Continue on the B1167 past the golf course, follow a bend to the right and continue with the river on the right for 1.5 miles. Pass the old station house on the left, and at the T-junction turn right onto the B1166 (signposted Wisbech, Parson Drove and Sutton St Edmund). Follow this road for two miles through Throckenholt and take the third left onto Broadgate (caravan sign at the junction). The park is after 3/4 of a mile on the right.

From the north turn off the A17 into Holbeach, go straight at the traffic lights, driving 2.5 miles to Holbeach St. Johns, then turn left at The Plough. After about one mile, turn right at the crossroads into Broadgate. Then drive 2.5 miles through the village and we are one mile on the left.

Local attractions

You’ll need to be active to work off all those Lincolnshire sausages, so take to the unexplored fens on Orchard View’s doorstep for cycling, riverside rambling and horse riding; aim for the skies with some clay pigeon shooting or get swinging at one of the five local golf courses. If you’re still a bit full up, some birdwatching or fishing for carp at the nearby lakes should be a more gentle way to spend the day.

Strolling around the shops is also a less strenuous way to work off the calories: Spalding has bargains galore in the Springfield Shopping Outlet and the Springfield Festival Gardens to relax in and gloat over your purchases after a morning spent ringing the tills. If you're after further entertainment? Then whisk yourself off to Peterborough for shopping, theatre, cinema, sports and swimming, and walks around the parks and river. Then back to Orchard View for a well-earned spot of rest...

The market town of Boston is also recommended for savvy shoppers, and if you’re feeling a bit guilty about maxing out the credit cards (apparently this happens to some people occasionally), you can soothe your conscience by taking in historical Boston before loading yourself down with shopping bags: try the Boston Guildhall and the museum at the Maud Foster Tower Windmill, or move along to Crowland to see the 14th-century three-sided bridge and medieval Crowland Abbey. Thorney Abbey (about a 20-minute drive from the site) and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (just over an hour’s drive north) will give history-loving types plenty more to get stuck in to as well.

A scenic drive will take you to the towns of Hunstanton and Sandringham, but you can’t come to this part of Lincolnshire without also seeing seaside town Skeggy. It’s not just the seaside, the donkey rides and the funfair: the Natureland Seal Sanctuary at Skegness too – and has tarantulas – and the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve is also well worth a look. And if you've got a taste for sea views, the north Norfolk coast is a short drive away.

Once the kids have recovered from their hair-raising tarantula experience, soothe them with a trip to Fantasy Island up the coast at Ingoldmells. Where, coincidentally enough, there’ll be a chance to go shopping again: with hundreds of stalls, the Eastgate Market is the biggest indoor seven-day market in Europe...
