  • By National Cycle Network Route 1
  • Communal lounge with piano, sofas, pool table and TV/DVD player
A warm welcome is very much assured at Laurel Park Campsite in south Lincolnshire, a lovely little site that's secluded and sheltered on a quiet country lane and surrounded by miles of walking and cycling trails including the National Cycle Network Route 1. It's also south of the Wash Nature Reserve, a wildlife haven with miles of coastal walks and many available boat trips to see seals and nesting birds. Settle down here for a highly quiet and unwinding stay – seriously, this is a most serene site… Facilities include a comfy communal lounge with sofas, TV and DVD player, a piano, pool table, games, Tassimo coffee machine and communal freezer, as well as a book and DVD lending library. The site shop is well stocked with food and camping essentials, gift and thrift items, frozen foods and ice creams. Also on site is a small menagerie of animals for guests to meet: help feed, walk or pet the miniature donkeys, pygmy goats, chickens and rabbits, or help walk the donkeys and goats. Amenities at Laurel Park include toilets and free electric showers, two chemical disposal points, a washing-up area with free hot water, laundry facilities, a mobile phone recharging point, Calor gas sales, ice pack freezing and recycling facilities. Pick up supplies at the market town of Long Sutton two miles away, which has shops, pubs, banks, takeaways and a market on Fridays; more supplies and shops are in Spalding about 12 miles away.

Liked: Very picturesque, relaxing, friendly, clean, welcoming, quiet area, farm animals. Andy and Emma are lovely. Both very respectable and friendly. They will wish you a good morning and have an evening chat whilst walking their dogs. Very pleasant. I am not sure if there was wifi as I did not check, however, phone signal is not the best at this location.

Disliked: If you wake easy by farm animals early in the morning, this might be a problem for you. The cockerel likes to be a morning alarm, which personally, I found pleasant.

Liked: The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The campsite is in a tranquil location and a pleasant 50 minute walk to Long Sutton where there are a few shops and pubs. It is great to interact with the animals on the site especially the donkeys.

Liked: Pergola area Pool table room Fridge, Kettle, Microwave, Washing Machine Animals & Feeding time Very clean and well kept Emma & Andy were fab, really accommodating and helpful

Disliked: Nothing really, enjoyed everything. Couple of minor things we commented on: Some matting or bark would have been useful as walkways, but we visited on a particularly wet weekend. Some small lights around the base of the pergola to show the steps & raised areas would be helpful. Was a little difficult to spot at night when visiting the loo

Railway Wagon 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked: Andy and Emma were fantastic hosts. Very welcoming, Friendly and helpful. The campsite is very spacious, clean and well looked after. We took our two girls and was a little worried before hand they would get bored easily. Not a chance. There is so much for them to do and get involved in. The best bit is the animals. Donkey's, Chickens, Rabbit and Guinea pigs. At 8.30am and 4.30pm your children can get involved with feeding time. During feeding times Andy and Emma talk the children through the process and all sorts of information about the different animals. The children were very entertained through it all. We stayed in one of the converted train carts. It was very tidy, clean and spacious. A big sofa that turns into a very big double bed. the bunk beds we very good for the children too. Outside we had a covered picnic table and seating around a fire pit. Which was my highlight. Was very relaxing sitting around the fire in the evening, taking in the peace and quite. There is a games room for the children too. Pool table, piano, books and plenty of games to keep the children occupied. There was a male and female toilet and shower room. Kept clean and tidy. Also a unisex one for families. There is also a lovely communal seating area that's covered.

Disliked: honestly cant think of anything to dislike :)

Liked: Andy and Emma were amazing hosts. They were very welcoming and clearly loved running their campsite. The toilet, shower and washing facilities were very clean with plenty of hot water. The games room and shop were excellent additions to the site. The pool table was a particular hit with our daughter and the friends she made on the site. Best of all was the twice daily feeding of the chickens, ducks and guinea pigs. Andy and Emma were so patient with all the children, making sure they all got a turn feeding and stroking the animals. Our daughter is very nervous around animals, but by the end of our stay she was feeding chickens and holding guinea pigs!

From the manager: It was a real pleasure having you all here and helping your daughter with her fear of animals. We hope to see you all again soon.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Large pitch, friendly welcoming owners. Facilities are fantastic for young children with a common room for them to meet and make friends in. Toilets were always clean tidy. Great opportunity for kids and adults to handle and feed the animals on site is run twice a day and I know that my children woke up especially to do this and this became a major part of their day.

Liked: This was our 2nd visit because its such a great site. The site is kept beautifully and the kids love the animals they can feed and pet. Andy and Emma are such great hosts and so friendly, getting the kids involved. Kids love making friends and running around in all the trees. The facilities are always kept clean and tidy and we love the communal areas. The site is a good base for visiting places in the area.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Lovely, small site, facilities Nice animals, all available to pet at certain times Emma & Andy both welcoming and helpful Fire pits available to rent if required

Disliked: No WiFi. Not an issue for us, we don't use electrics while camping

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review. We made a conscious decision no to have wifi, so that kids are more likely to stay off screens. It works brilliantly and most parents are really appreciative of it. But if anyone gets desperate for connectivity, the 4G round here is usually pretty good. :-D

Local attractions

The Wash has the biggest nature reserve in England, made up of sand and mud landscapes, salt marshes, waters and sandbank islands visible at low tide. It's probably best known for its seals and has the biggest single colony of common seals in Europe at Seal Island; visit in June or July to see the new pups. Market town Spalding is a good day out, particularly at its Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre, as is a day among the medieval architecture and many museums of historic King's Lynn. Wisbech, its brewery, gardens and maze is about 25 minutes' drive away, and Hunstanton and Skegness are less than an hour away. Many visitors to this part of the country also go to the royal estate of Sandringham to see the house, museum, gardens and the parish church of St Mary Magdalene.
