General

  • In a countryside setting but only two miles from Skegness
  • Fishing on site: land catches of up to 26lb
  • Free hot showers in a modern amenities block

Fishing on a large lake in the lovely Lincolnshire countryside and only five minutes' drive to Skegness: how super.

Fishing for whoppers too, as anglers have landed specimens of up to 26lbs at Birchwood Fishing and Camping two miles from Skeggy, so bring your fishing tackle, buy a day ticket from the team and settle down to see what can be landed among the common carp, koi carp, ghost carp, mirror carp, crucian carp, rudd, roach, tench and bream.

Walks are quite super around these surrounds too… and some are accessible straight from the site entrance and through the surrounding fields to Skegness or Winthorpe and wherever else your feet fancy, perhaps after sinking a pint at the latter's Batemans brewery?

Birchwood is mainly grass and has a modern loo and shower block with disabled facilities, free hot showers and a washing-up area at its end. Mains sockets for hairdryers and the like are also available in both the ladies' and the gents' loos.

Dogs are welcome on site, but must be kept on a lead at all times and cleaned up after.

Please note

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

A great quite location, 1/4 mile walk to Skegness, great walk along the way and very good for a scenic tour, not even 10 minutes to Skegness if taking a car. Path majority along the route, a great place to take dogs. The people that opwn the site, where very helpfull and friendly on arrival. Very simple to locate, the campsite, is very clean and the facilities are also very clean and tidy. A pretty little campsite with two fishing lakes within the grounds.
Would 100% recommend a great place to stay and great value for money.

Too cramped during busy period, this spoilt the getting away feeling. No privacy or peace and quiet. People playing loud music and chatting until 11pm which is late when you are trying to put children to sleep.

    Good location, cheap

    Disliked:

They offer an ‘adult only pitch’ at a higher price - given the option we selected this as were a young couple and don’t have kids. Only problem is they do not actually have adult only pitches, so you’re paying extra for the exact same as you would if you selected the cheaper (family) option. I flagged this up with Pitch up who were extremely unhelpful and didn’t even apologise - I just got a defensive response. Not great customer service! They just passed the blame to the campsite owners themselves and didn’t offer to amend the incorrect information on their website. Had we paid for cheaper option and been woken up by kids we would’ve shrugged it off and noted that you get what you pay for. So just a tip for future - don’t offer a service you don’t have and people won’t be disappointed. Still had no refund of the price difference, so unfortunately only way I can describe this website is it’s a SCAM. Sadly won’t be staying at this campsite again nor will I reccommed to a friend as I just don’t appreciate dishonesty

Local attractions

Lincolnshire's seaside capital Skegness is two miles from Birchwood Fishing and Camping, as is Fantasy Island and the indoor market land of Ingoldmells, another popular destination on the Lincs coast.

Skeggy has quite a bit to see after its beach and pier-less amusements, such as Natureland Seal Sanctuary on North Parade, where visitors can see the seals being fed and have a look at loads of other animals like penguins, tarantulas and tropical butterflies. (If it's animals, conservation and nature you're after, see also the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve, the nearby Northcote Heavy Horse Centre and the National Parrot Sanctuary.)

Just up the coast at Ingoldmells, take the kids to the indoor and outdoor big and small rides of Fantasy Island (this should work as a nice bribe to get them to accompany you to the huge market afterwards) and then a short journey further north to more seaside at Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea.

Finally, if you care for a spot of fruit picking, nearby Willow Farm lets you pluck your own among its ten-acre field and has a farm shop selling more goodies for you to take back to base.

Must see

  • Sandringham (25.0 miles)
  • Holkham Hall (25.1 miles)
  • Houghton Hall (27.4 miles)

  • Gunby Hall (5.3 miles)
