General

  • Peaceful Lincolnshire Wolds park less than a mile from Market Rasen
  • On the Lindsey Trail for cycling, walking and riding
  • Dogs and horses welcome

If we were fortunate enough to possess our own nag, we'd surely be cantering forth to this campsite on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds as soon as ever we could. For Walesby Woodlands Caravan Park, run by Paul and Julia in a peaceful woodland setting, is bang on the Lindsey Trail, yielding miles upon miles of trotting (and ambling, and cycling) opportunities through the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Walesby is a quiet park, used as a base by clever campers who want to explore the attractions and villages of the Wolds or delve into local countryside pursuits like fishing, golf and wildlife watching. It's less than a mile from Market Rasen for supplies, shops, pubs, fishing, golf and more nags at Market Rasen Racecourse, and within driving distance of Skegness and the Lincolnshire coast.

The pitch price includes free hot water for the centrally heated shower and loo block. Walesby Woodlands also has a launderette, wifi, Calor gas for sale and an automatic security barrier for added safety. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Julia and Paul run a café on site on high season and bank holiday weekends; at other times, Market Rasen should have most of what you need, including traditional shops, a farm shop, bakery, butcher and Tesco.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Quiet, friendly site. Showers hot and toilets clean, site well maintained. Nice play area for kids, and space for playing ball games.

    Disliked:

No information on cafe as to whether it was open or closed, never seemed to be anyone in so didn't go. Play area not open until 10am which was difficult with small kids. Would also have been helpful to know what could/couldnt be recycled on the welcome information.

Area and location close to Market Rasen and Lincoln for sightseeing.
    Size of campsite was good.
Good selection of walking guides and information on local attractions
Farm shop only 5 minutes walk down the lane (although a bit pricey)

    Disliked:

Shower block in need of an upgrade. Rusty shower curtain poles and peeling paint on walls
Given a pitch that was quite away from the electric hook up.
(Note to self roll out the electric cable before pitching tent !!)

Local attractions

For day trips, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast can be reached in about an hour in the car and lovely Lincoln is within about 40 minutes' drive: did you know its cathedral was used in the film of The Da Vinci Code…?

If you prefer to stick closer to home on your own feet/wheels, Walesby Woodlands is on both the 75 miles of the Lindsey Trail and the National Cycle Trail One. The Viking Way, from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland, also passes near the park, as does the 78-mile circular Lincolnshire Wolds Way (handily broken into daily sections of about six hours each). Very close to home, many tired feet have rested at the walkers' church in Walesby.

Lincolnshire is pretty nifty for market towns and shopping, like at Louth, Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, all well within an hour's drive; be sure and wheel back many samples from Louth's award-winning The Cheese Shop.

At Woodhall Spa, have an old-fashioned evening out at Kinema in the Woods, entertaining those around the area since 1922 and with its own eighteenth century organ – and organist.
