General

  • Peaceful Lincolnshire Wolds park less than a mile from Market Rasen
  • On the Lindsey Trail for cycling, walking and riding
  • Dogs and horses welcome

If we were fortunate enough to possess our own nag, we'd surely be cantering forth to this campsite on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds as soon as ever we could. For Walesby Woodlands Caravan Park, run by Paul and Julia in a peaceful woodland setting, is bang on the Lindsey Trail, yielding miles upon miles of trotting (and ambling, and cycling) opportunities through the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Walesby is a quiet park, used as a base by clever campers who want to explore the attractions and villages of the Wolds or delve into local countryside pursuits like fishing, golf and wildlife watching. It's less than a mile from Market Rasen for supplies, shops, pubs, fishing, golf and more nags at Market Rasen Racecourse, and within driving distance of Skegness and the Lincolnshire coast.

The pitch price includes free hot water for the centrally heated shower and loo block. Walesby Woodlands also has a launderette, wifi, Calor gas for sale and an automatic security barrier for added safety. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Julia and Paul run a café on site on high season and bank holiday weekends; at other times, Market Rasen should have most of what you need, including traditional shops, a farm shop, bakery, butcher and Tesco.

The fact that pitch up website charged me more than the cost, didn't send confirmation to the site and made out there were limited pitches available

We've just had the May bank holiday weekend here at Walesby Woodlands !! First time here and it won't be the last !! Lovely well kept very clean site very quite lovely scenery as you approach the site and also surrounded by it as well. Spotlessly clean dish wash /veg prep area toilets and showers and a lovely little play park for children to play on . The new owners are very pleasant and can't help enough and has a lovely dog walk

    Disliked:

Nothing to be fair we had a lovely weekend but if I had to say I disliked anything it was coming home.
A very small negative ( very small ) is the Internet coverage ( although free ) isn't particularly brilliant but like I said that's not a dislike .

What a lovely site this is. Level pitches, sumptuous grass, well maintained and there's WiFi too. Its a picturesque location and has excellent walks around and about. The rain this month made a lot of walks quite wet but that was unfortunate and wouldn't stop us going again. In fact I think we are going back in September.

I liked that its peaceful ..I liked that the children made their own entertainment and played out most of the time it's safe...!...the site is clean !..the owner is a lovely fella ..his little girl played with my children and is a very well mannered helpful little girl a credit....the only thing I was a bit disappointed in is charging for the children when not real,y a lot there for them sites that charge for children when it's already a descent price per night annoy me a little cause no need to do it really ..there is plenty of ways to make money without ripping people with kids off sl this is something I hole they change ..apart from that drop the kid fee and we will return with family next time lovely quiet place

    Disliked:

Extra charge for children ...the site is £21 pn plus extr for kids o £27 is a bit steep should be £19 maximum and no charging for children !!...which to say there is only one set of bins at the front quite a way for elders to walk to the bins everyday ... I think there should be three lots around the park for the size ! WIFI.? What WIFI .? I like to pay for sites that when they say they have wifi it has actually had money spent to work ...don't expect be here with wifi you get no signal on phone and wifi rubbish..IN FACT SHOCKING ,!...like I said the price per night is premium prices coming up to sI when I have paid £27per night I expect wifi to be tip top !!...

Apart from that lovely site ..the owners just need to come up with and spend a little money to make the wifi worthwhile in this day and age or drop prices to basic ..is £17-19 ppn ...

Nice site located by the woodlands. Ideal for dog owners, walks and cycle trails are nearby. Staff very obliging, Facilities are okay. Cafe onsite for simple meals but did not need to use ourselves. Only a 20min walk into Market Rasen shops pubs takeaways etc. Lovely part of Lincolnshire, would stay there again if we were visiting that part of England in the future.

Local attractions

For day trips, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast can be reached in about an hour in the car and lovely Lincoln is within about 40 minutes' drive: did you know its cathedral was used in the film of The Da Vinci Code…?

If you prefer to stick closer to home on your own feet/wheels, Walesby Woodlands is on both the 75 miles of the Lindsey Trail and the National Cycle Trail One. The Viking Way, from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland, also passes near the park, as does the 78-mile circular Lincolnshire Wolds Way (handily broken into daily sections of about six hours each). Very close to home, many tired feet have rested at the walkers' church in Walesby.

Lincolnshire is pretty nifty for market towns and shopping, like at Louth, Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, all well within an hour's drive; be sure and wheel back many samples from Louth's award-winning The Cheese Shop.

At Woodhall Spa, have an old-fashioned evening out at Kinema in the Woods, entertaining those around the area since 1922 and with its own eighteenth century organ – and organist.

Must see

  • Lincoln Cathedral (14.6 miles)
  • Lincoln Castle (14.7 miles)
  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (14.7 miles)

National Trust

  • Tattershall Castle (21.5 miles)
  • Maister House (23.6 miles)
