  • Rural farm in a wildlife haven a mile from Mablethorpe
  • Access to both countryside and seaside activities
  • Quiet site: no frills but clean and welcoming
Seaside or countryside? Countryside or seaside? Have both – every day if so desired – at Standen Lodge Farm, a rural and relaxed site deep in the Lincolnshire countryside with farming activity all around, but only a mile from the beach, funfair and fresh fish and chips of Mablethorpe. This is also a wildlife haven, so sit tight during days on site to spy families of foxes crossing the fields, barn owls regularly flying past and many other feathered locals like kestrels, buzzards, swifts, wood pigeons, wagtails, pheasants and partridges. Standen Lodge Farm has a well-maintained converted stable as a small and modern shower and toilet block, with three showers and five toilets. Guests also have access to a washing-up area. The site is quiet, but can get busy in high season.

Local attractions

Make for Mablethorpe a mere mile away for its first-rate beach alongside trad seaside activities like donkey rides, the annual Bathing Beauties festival rating the most comely beach huts, the Mablethorpe sand train – and regular weekend events like motor racing. Also take a look at the Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and funfair; more practically, you'll also find supermarkets, a post office, a local bus station, tourist info centre and plenty of places to eat from fish and chips to Indian, Italian or Chinese. The miles of flat sandy beach to Mablethorpe's north lead to the Donna Nook nature reserve, one of the best places in the country to see seals in the wild (late autumn is the best time as seals come ashore to pup). Additional seaside towns Cleethorpes and Skegness are within a short drive of Standen Lodge Farm, or if you want to head inland, traditional market towns like Alford and Louth are also popular tourist stops.
