Hanworth Country Park: Static caravan sleeping up to 8, with two twin rooms, a double and a sofa bed

General

  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food, fishing and reflexology

Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln.

And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area, perhaps under the watchful eye of your other half while you undergo a reflexology session on site.

Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral.

Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport.

Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Loved the size of the site and the pitches were a decent size. Nice staff and the bar/cafe is lovely food was tasty looking forward to trying there winter warmer package

    Disliked:

Freight trains constantly going past but once I was asleep it didn't bother me but if your a light sleeper it probably would. Could probably do with another toilet waste disposal point as there was only one near the main reception end could do with one at the other end too.

My stay was mostly midweek so the site was peaceful. I liked the setting and enjoying walking round the lakes and cycling on nearby lanes accessed from the top end of the site. A pleasant walk on the public footpath to Potterhanworth made catching a bus to Lincoln quite straightforward.
It was good having a bar/cafe on site and I enjoyed using it a couple of times.
The whole site is very well maintained and clean. All the staff I met were friendly and helpful.
I liked the large pitch (serviced) - clean gravel plus a large grass area for sitting.
I mostly used my own facilities but the toilet block was very clean and modern.
I rather liked watching the trains go by (I could see them from my pitch) but some people might find the noise of the long good trains disturbing. There were some night trains.

    Disliked:

I didn't dislike anything, though I wondered why the shower block at the top end of the site (near my pitch) only had ladies' showers.
The start of the public footpath to Potterhanworth could be more clearly marked, I think. It's a grassy track across a grass field and isn't obvious straight away, with several gravel paths going in other directions. Further on, the footpath has reassuring yellow arrows, so perhaps one could be added where site visitors join the path, near the information board by the Park entrance.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking your time to review our site, we are very glad that you enjoy the area and your stay with us. We will take on board your comments and see if we can making it easier to see the footpath to Potterhanworth. We look forward to see you again.
