Hanworth Country Park: Camping Pods

General

  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing

Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln.

And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area.

Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral.

Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport.

Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Facilities/activities including Fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Units longer than 9 metres are not allowed.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Reception opening times: Monday - Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm.

Only drive-away awnings are permitted

Please note there will be live music concerts on-site on the 12th, 13th and 14th August from about 7.45pm.

Toilets clean, staff knowledgeable, good dog walk, quiet at night and didnt really notice the nearby train line, although it could be heard during the day. The hand pulled real ale in the bar was good and the food menu looked interesting.Nice little shop.
Fishing looked awesome and will return next year with my tackle.

    Disliked:

The site was quite poorly lit at night and i found it essential to take a torch to the shower block. Although i understand that out of season the bar cant be open for long hours,i did find the actual opening times strange.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so pleased you thought our facilities were clean, our staff knowledgeable and you enjoyed the real ale in Brewers Cafe/Bar. We appreciate all feedback good or bad and will implement any suggestion wherever possible. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area.

Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
