General

  • Family-run woodland and grassland site
  • Immaculately-maintained amenities including launderette
  • Within half an hour's drive of Lincoln

When Pitchup peeps peruse pitches, they look for sites using a range of essential provisos to tick off: location, type of accommodation and nearness to the local pub are but a few factors all sensibly considered before a booking is made.

But the state of toilets and showers at a site is more important than non-campers might imagine, and can swiftly flip an all right break into one with frustration levels on a par with the film Nuts in May. If decent ablutions are among your ticking off points for a site, peaceful Grace Park in lovely lovely Lincolnshire should leave you feeling flushed.

The Grace Park team take pride in all the factors of their three and a half acre family-run woodland and grassland site, but particularly in the essentials, which they strive to maintain at a level you’d expect at home (assuming you’re a domesticated type of course).

The newly decorated facilities block is centrally heated with non-slip tiled floors in the separate ladies’ and gents’ showers and toilets, and includes a room with helpers’ rails and wide doors for disabled access. Another billy bonus – showers are free and not on a timer for lathering up as long as is liked.

As you’ll probably care just a tad about location too: Grace Park is placed in countryside with scenic walks all around, near to the wanders, mountain biking and wildlife watching of Laughton Forest.

It’s an easy distance from most of Lincolnshire’s top attractions, including the Lincolnshire Wolds to the east and the city of Lincoln within half an hour’s drive. The village of Blyton, home of the very Enid Blyton-sounding ice cream, is a mile from the park; a village shop and a pub (also something to care about on holiday) are both within walking distance.

Site was very well maintained, superb facilities block with toilets, showers and wash room - probably the cleanest I've ever seen!

Site is ideally situated for Blyton Park Race Track which is less than 3 miles away. Also only 15 minute walk along road side in to Blyton itself where there is a convenience shop, Chinese Takeaway, couple of pubs including the very good Black Horse which does great food and an ice cream shop.

Spacious clean toilet block, nice showers. Rural location, easy to find just of main road. Secure electric gate. Nice owners living onsite. Great views out over the fields, can tell a lot of work been done already on the entrance area and on the trees and hedges around the site, all the electric pitches are hardstanding. Can walk along road to next villages for a drink. Good value

    Disliked:

Some road noise, pitches could do with a little tidying and some hedging between for privacy. No wifi

Local attractions

Grace Park is in an adroit Lincolnshire location to go forth and take advantage of all the area has to offer, whether you prefer refined rambles around the surrounding countryside or the Lincolnshire Wolds, or ringing the tills shopping on a city day trip. Either way, Blyton ice cream should be consumed.

Possibly not very Enid Blyton, but certainly very wizard, is roaring around at the nearby Blyton Park Racing Circuit at the converted Old Blyton Airfield on Kirton Road, where boy and girl racers should speed along to see a motorsports day, and/or hire and drive karts around a 600 metre track. (Lincolnshire is prime biking country too if you have your own motorbike, but we don’t recommend doing this at the circuit.)

Under your own steam, pedal or parade among the conifer and silver birch trees of Laughton Forest or Water’s Edge Country Park, a wildlife watching place with many species including rare plants and birds among its two Sites of Special Scientific Interest, woodland and ten ponds; look out for kingfishers in winter.

Normanby Hall Country Park at Scunthorpe has 300 acres of grounds including woodland, a deer park, fishing lake and Victorian walled garden (we very much like the look of the peach case); also worth a look is Doddington Hall and Gardens and the nature trail through the wild garden.

The city of Lincoln is very much worth a look (we insist) and not light on historical buildings and monuments like Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle, with new Magna Carta home and visitor centre in 2015.

Also while in town, mull over the story of the region at The Museum of Lincolnshire Life on the edge of the Cathedral Quarter shopping area five minutes’ walk from the castle and cathedral. The Collection, Lincoln’s award-winning art and archaeology museum and county’s main art museum, is at Danes Terrace.

To Lincoln’s south-east, flight fans should aim for a guided hangar tour at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at Coningsby.
