General
- Eco-friendly and laidback site, off grid among meadows and woodland
- A 10-minute stroll from Burgh-le-Marsh with takeaways and seven pubs
- Campfires welcome: private firepit on each pitch
Straight up: you'll find lots to like at this lovely little Lincolnshire site.
At the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds an easy few miles from the coast at Skeggy and Ingoldmells, Crooked Willow Campsite has been set up by owner Simon to give seaside campers as back-to-nature a holiday as poss: it's a farm site that's firmly off grid, among wild meadows and woodland glades. And – always a direct hit with most types of guest – campfires are allowed and each pitch has its own firepit.
The site amenities – shower and toilet facilities and family bathroom with changing area – are in a traditional stable block next to the washing-up area; several freshwater taps are around the site along with a chemical waste disposal point.
And do you like to go back to basics but also be sure of obtaining a curry and a pint when you might fancy? Crooked Willow Campsite is a piffling three-quarters of a mile from Burgh-le-Marsh, where Lincolnshire campers can hunt down refreshments at the restaurant, tearoom, takeaway, chip shop and – lots to like again – no less than seven local pubs.

Local attractions
You've got the pick of the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Lincolnshire coast with a stay at Crooked Willow Campsite – both recommended, obvs...
On the coast, most folk spend time at Skegness and Ingoldmells as a first point of call: Skegness for seaside japes like the pier, Natureland Seal Sanctuary, boating lake and pleasure beach, and Ingoldmells for the theme park Fantasy Island and mammoth indoor market.
Also popular around the coast are the towns of Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe, famed for their hundreds of colourful bathing huts and the sand train at Mablethorpe; go further north to get to the coastal village of Saltfleet and its 200 year old pub.
Woldswise, take yourself off into the walking and cycling trails of the countryside or see some of the Wolds attractions, like the watermill and wildfowl gardens of Claythorpe and the market towns of Louth and Market Rasen. Brought your bike? The Wolds have many excellent motorbiking routes and a tiptop racing circuit at Cadwell Park.
If you're here to nature spot, seeing the seals at Donna Nook should be on your list; more local critters can be observed at the Snipe Dales Nature Reserve, the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve and the straightforwardly excellent Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, running south of Skegness to the Wash.
