General

  • Peaceful back to basics site nine miles from Newark
  • Campfire area for guests to share
  • Pub serving food 600 yards away

Steal a break getting back to basics on the four and a half level acres of in the village of Brant Broughton in Lincolnshire – although there's easy access from the A17, this is a peaceful place, set back from the road on the south end of the village's High Street.

The campsite area is a long meadow that borders the Sandbeck stream to the south and the River Brant to the east, and has a designated campfire area for all guests to share (we think there should be ghost stories) and a loo block with hot and cold water. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on site.

A nursery selling fresh veg and garden plants is opposite the site and local pub the Generous Briton is 600 yards away; it serves food and takeaways, and has a café opposite that's open from Thursdays through to Sundays. Nearby Navenby has a fish and chip shop, an Indian takeaway, a baker, a butcher, antique shops and two pubs.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Booked electric not enough amps but the owner linked us to a caravan hook up. Tents are in the same field as the storage for caravans and only 1 toilet.

From the manager...

So sorry you didn't enjoy your stay.
We do make it clear in our advertising that we have quite a basic site with a toilet and a full bathroom with bath, shower and toilet [2 toilets in total].
Yes we do have storage caravans down the side of the rally field, but it is 4 acres so not exactly cramped!
We also feel we did offer you good value for money as your giant tents were charged at the normal rate despite taking up the space of 3 pitches.

A friendly and helpful welcome by Allan. This is a clean and well kept site which would have been marvellous had the weather been half way decent.

This is a secure site protected by a padlocked gate for which I was given the combination. I had my own toilet facility on board. I believe this site has only one toilet and one shower + toilet. I did use the shower ( cost - one pound in the honesty box ) which was excellent. There is a chemical toilet disposal point outside the main gate.
I stayed for three nights and felt safe and at home here. I will return to Poachers Patch on my next visit to this area.

    Disliked:

    Just the horrible weather.

Local attractions

Hop in the car, for day trips are all around from . Newark-on-Trent, aka Newark, is nine miles away and since 2015 has been home to the Newark Torc, which can now be enviously viewed in the National Civil War Centre and Newark Museum; other sights to see are the many listed buildings in and around town, including the rising spire of Church of St. Mary Magdalene – trust us, you won't be able to miss it.

Also close by, see the 30+ exhibits of the Bubble Car Museum at Byards Leap, five miles towards Sleaford on the A17, and visit the market town of Sleaford and its Cogglesford Mill within 12 miles. Lincoln – we think cathedral, castle, marina and the shops of Brayford Waterfront – is 13 miles away.

If you feel like having some history, get hither to RAF Connisby, home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the only flying Lancaster in Europe, several Spitfires, Hurricanes, the new Eurofighter and a DC3 (Dakota). Or try a trip 24 miles away to Tattershall Castle, a medieval castle now managed by the National Trust.

Must see

  • Belton House (9.1 miles)
  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (11.7 miles)
  • Lincoln Castle (11.7 miles)

National Trust

  • Grantham House (11.0 miles)
  • The Workhouse, Southwell (12.6 miles)
