General

  • Family-run organic farm for back-to-nature stays
  • Remote and peaceful for quiet and stargazing
  • Campfires encouraged: meals provided to heat up

Off to Boston, Lincs? Get back to nature and back to basics with a stay at friendly New Farm Holidays, part of a family-run organic farm established back in the 1980s.

This is proper remote and peaceful back to nature camping with no mains electricity and no lighting – all the better to lie back for some stargazing, perhaps..? A rural retreat away from cars is sorted as the car park is 100 yards from the campsite (the farm team have a large cart available for guests to shift their gear).

Flushing toilets, a hot shower and dishwashing facilities are on site.

And, as the New Farm family points out, to get the most out of camping one needs a campfire, so you'll find a dedicated campfire area beside every pitch on site, for a glass of wine or a toasted marshmallow under the peaceful night and its stars.

Prefer not to cook? The clever farm team can provide a variety of meals for you to heat up over the fire.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

New Farm Holidays cannot accept booking from single-sex groups where any group member is under 25 years of age.

We all loved everything about it. The electric floor tent pitches which are located in the forest area are fantastic. Out of the way from everything. Just surrounded by trees and wildlife. Definatly coming again. Also the people that run the place are super friendly and are very helpful if you need it.

Everything! The little touches like plenty of candles, pillows and lanterns. Shower facilities are great, fire spot ready for you and loads of wood. Really loved the bell tent, warm and cosy but loads of room to move about. Bed was comfy and everything was nice and clean. The woodland area is really peaceful with a lovely atmosphere. We will stay again!

Absolutely loved our stay here, had 2 nights in heaven essentially. It is an absolute gem this place, could not recommend it enough we are already planning our next trip here! the lady who came down in the morning (sorry didn't catch your name) was really nice and chatty, made us feel very welcome, the whole place was immaculate and i loved the toilet block very clean and the shower was massive and did get nice and hot. Best bit was you could have a camp fire too which was really enjoyable after a long day out.
Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend break.

Couldn't fault it 19/03/2017

  • Camping pod
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked:

Lovely, warm welcome as owners were onsite as I arrived. Beautiful setting, very peaceful. Pods warm and spacious, communal facilities clean and within easy reach of pods. I spent one night entirely alone as other campers had left and I felt very safe, and there's a friendly cat who wanders around to keep you company also. The grill provided to cook on your campfire is excellent, and a log bag goes a long way (once you've mastered your fire)! And there are plenty of natural marshmallow 'spears' around.
The weather was kind to me, it only rained for one day and the overhang on the pods means you can still sit on the deck regardless. It stopped raining in the early evening which meant I was still able to have a campfire every night.
There is plenty of walking to be done, you can wander for hours over the fields. Within the campsite the woodlands are very accessible and provided in your pod are excellent identification keys for the exploring the various habitats and organisms, as well as a kit for collecting insects to inspect. You don't have to look hard for wildlife though, deer, frogs, birds are just a few animals spotted over my trip. Take your welllies if it's been raining though, it can get a little muddy (which just adds to the fun).
Although I booked alone, I did have a couple of friends join me occasionally, which was welcomed by the owners. They both loved the area, and although the road to the site is a little bumpy none of us experienced any problems with our vehicles.
The camp is remote, but not completely cut off from civilisation. Certain networks get a good signal (if you want you technology of course), and there is a main road close by for access to the local town. I didn't venture out myself, but other campers regularly took trips out during their stay. Whether you are looking for a retreat to hide out at or a base for visiting local attractions New Farm is ideally situated, both Gibraltar Point and The Lincolnshire Wildlife park are within a short distance.
I wouldn't hesitate to book again, I would love to visit once the trees have blossomed, although the beauty of the site is not diminished by the lack of foliage, it's just a different kind of beauty. As a nature enthusiast I'd also be keen to see what other wildlife you might see once the weather gets warmer.
I highly recommend New Farm, and if you do have any queries at all, the owners are very amenable. I had to alter my booking a few times and was treated excellently, and correspondence by phone and email was prompt and friendly.
Thank you New Farm for an excellent mini break!

Directions

Leaving Boston on the A16, signposted Grimbsy/Skegness

After nine miles enter the village of Stickney, pass the school and Stickney Church on your left-hand side

Approximately one mile after the Church, remaining on the A16, turn left onto Drain Bank (just after the speed camera which is on your right!) signposted Hagnaby Lock/East Kirkby

After about one mile, with the Jolly Sailor pub on the right, turn left over the bridge onto Folly Lane/Hagnaby Lock. Follow the road for one mile to a 90-degree left turn.

At the turn, is straight ahead onto the farm track and signed. Continue straight on the farm track past a house and the farmyard until you see a sign left into the campsite car park.

These directions are preferable to your satnav directions which will bring you in via West Fen and Folly Lane and while suitable for motor vehicles is a bumpy ride!

Local attractions

From coast to countryside, activities to attractions, Lincolnshire should have something to sort out all tastes.

The historic market town of Boston is nine miles from and known among other things for its St Botolph's Church, aka the Stump, which is thought to have the highest non-cathedral church tower in the world, and for its Guildhall, where the Pilgrim Fathers were tried and jailed.

If you like to be beside the seaside, county seaside capital Skegness is a capital day out. The New Farm team also highly recommend their own coastal favourite Chapel St Leonards a little further up the coast and a bit more off the beaten track.

This part of the coast is also capital for birdwatching and nature spotting: try the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve and the RSPB's Freiston Shore to see creatures in the wild, and Skegness's Natureland Seal Sanctuary to see them under cover.

Lincolnshire's also known for its military connections: the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is a popular stopoff point for enthusiasts, who come to see, among many other exhibits, the Lancaster NX611 Just Jane.

Must see

  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (22.3 miles)
  • Lincoln Cathedral (22.3 miles)
  • Lincoln Castle (22.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Tattershall Castle (6.5 miles)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (8.9 miles)
