  • Peaceful wild camping within the Battle of Bosworth map area
  • Seven-acre field with fishery next door and Ashby canal walks nearby
  • Well-stocked farm shop: buy barbecue packs and home-produced meat
No battling here to find a wild camping site that’s remote and peaceful but with excellent supplies: Tomlinson's Farm Shop and Campsite, within the Battle of Bosworth map area, is a quiet place home to a shop stuffed with treats for all tastes. As a back-to-basics site, campfires and barbecues are of course allowed here (‘positively encouraged’, says the team) and what a lot there is to pick from for sizzling over the flames. The well-stocked farm shop sells home-produced meat including beef, lamb, rare-breed pork and free-range chicken: briskets, steaks, mince, chops and fillets are all here to buy. Your campfire eats can also include prepared meat including the farm’s own sausages and burgers; cheese, milk, cream and farmhouse butter from the dairy; cakes, bread and pork pies from the bakery, and a wide range of groceries including fresh vegetables, porridge, muesli and jams, chutneys, sauces and pickles. And where to prep all this? Pitches at the farm are in a flat and spacious seven-acre field, on a site that's safe for kids and dogs because of its lockable gate. Tomlinson's is on the edge of the pretty village of Stoke Golding, and next door to a fishing lake. For further supplies – should you need them – Stoke Golding has three pubs all serving food; one has an Indian restaurant within it too and will deliver takeaways. The nearest big town is Hinckley, 10 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

There’s no need to walk or otherwise travel far to reach enough activities and attractions to keep you nicely occupied (probably just as well given all the eating you’ll be doing during your stay…) Angling types only have to take their rods and kit next door to find a fishery with day fishing available; just be sure to bring along your rod licence as fishing won’t be allowed without it. If you prefer ambling to angling, Tomlinson's is just over the bridge from a scenic and quiet stretch of the Ashby Canal, running for 15 miles to Ashby-de-la-Zouch in one direction and for just under 25 to Marston in the other. And as this is battlefield country… drive for 10 minutes to reach the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, an award-winning and family-friendly place with displays, exhibitions, activities and the free Bosworth Discovery Zone play area for kids aged up to eight. Market Bosworth is 10 minutes’ drive from the centre for some shopping and sightseeing afterwards; the local market is on Wednesdays if you really must source some more Leicestershire produce.
