- Rock pub site near Coalville
- Charity events, rock nights, bike nights and rideouts
- Food available all day
Bikers, truckers and live music lovers - this is the very place for you. near Coalville in Leicestershire and its friendly close-knit team sees all sorts from doctors to lawyers, and guarantee a rollicking welcome for those about to rock.
Free birds come to this popular pub from all over the country – and further afield – as a stopover on the way to Donington Park and Mallory, as a base when touring, and for the rock nights (three music stages!), bike nights, real ale and scrumpy.
There are also charity events, rideouts at weekends – and we think we mentioned the real ale (Black Sheep, Speckled Hen, HobGoblin, Pedigree) and scrumpy (treat with caution)? The pub has a garden of remembrance for famous and departed bikers and rockers like John Lennon, Gary Moore and Phil Lynott.
For stomach lining, the café serves all-day breakfasts and other meals during the day and a burger van sells award-winning nosh into the wee hours on weekend evenings, including Aberdeen Angus burgers, hot dogs with Irish recipe sausages, bacon butties and chip butties stuffed with fresh handcut chips. Fancy a takeaway? Order a Chinese or Indian meal from a local restaurant and staff will supply the plates, knives and forks.
Pitches at the Vic are within a helpful staggering distance of the pub; outside loos are available at night when the pub is shut, and showers (and a swimming pool) are available a minute's drive away at the Hermitage Park Leisure Centre, open from 7.30am.
Finally, as there’s ale and scrumpy being consumed, the campsite here is for adults only. Rock on...

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.

Local attractions
Shine on you crazy diamond: if you’re going to Download, Donington Park is just 13 miles away, and if you’re at the Vic any other time of the year there’s hocus pocus all around.
Those feeling energetic can roar along the 30-mile circuit of the Brass Monkey Run around Charnwood Forest with hundreds of other bikers in early January to raise money for the Rainbow Children's Hospice - or complete it at any time of the year on their own (pick up a route map from staff and a celebratory pin badge after you finish).
Bikes, cars and other wheely good transport options are the (Ford?) focus of quite a few attractions and races in Leicestershire. Non-Download, Donington Park lives as a race circuit and is home to the British Motorcycle Grand Prix and the Donington Grand Prix Exhibition, the biggest collection of Grand Prix vehicles in the world.
Get more racing satisfaction at Mallory Park racing circuit at nearby Kirkby Mallory, or for an out of this world trip, the acclaimed National Space Centre just outside Leicester city centre is the country’s biggest attraction devoted to space.
More quietly Nanpantan Reservoir is a good nearby spot for fishing – get a day permit at Soar Valley Tackle in Loughborough or Bennetts Stores in Mountsorrel – and fisheries are at Mallory Park and Charnwood Lake, part of Charnwood Forest with a 15-mile walk around Charnwood Peaks.
We’re also rather fond of Charnwood Forest’s Bradgate Park; look out for the ancient rocks on the hilltop of Old John (not the Rolling Stones).
Urbanites will find the Leicestershire market towns of Loughborough and Ashby-de-la-Zouche easy to get to from Coalville, with the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham also within biking distance.
Loughborough is the biggest settlement in Leicestershire outside Leicester and is well worth a day trip: the market is held every Thursday and Saturday and a farmers’ market once a month (also have a look for the biggest bell foundry in the world in Loughborough’s Queens Park). The heritage Great Central Railway runs from Loughborough to Leicester North and has regular special events and dining – Christmas murder mystery, anyone?
Naturally if you’re staying at the Vic you might want to be shook all night long at some of Leicestershire’s other rock spots: get your groove on in Leicester at the Sumo Bar Restaurant or the Firefly.
