General

  • Exclusive-use site in Staunton on Wye, for groups of up to 10
  • A 20-minute drive from both Hereford and Hay-on-Wye
  • Firepit, barbecue and cooking hut provided; farm shop close by

Maggie's Field Campsite is a secluded rural Herefordshire site in the village of Staunton on Wye, with half an acre of space for the exclusive use of one group of up to 10 (and dogs are allowed to come along too…)

The site is self-contained so kids can run about safely, and it backs on to a traditional apple orchard: a few minutes’ wander through here takes you out into a quiet nature reserve. There are plenty more rural walks to be had nearby, but you don’t have to leave the site to see red kites circling overhead or head baby owls hooting at dusk. Archery lessons can be sorted on site if booked ahead, and there’s also the option of canoeing on the river Wye (please call ahead to book either of these activity options).

A firepit and barbecue are provided on site, along with a little cooking hut that has a simple gas stove and a table to gather round should the weather not be to your liking. You can buy free-range eggs for breakfast from a nearby farmhouse, and it’s a little further to walk to the nearest farm shop for freshly picked local produce and meat from the local butchery. In a nifty little touch, a bike is provided so you can whizz up there easily enough to pick up supplies.

If you fancy taking a break from the cooking (or wish to sample local tipples), there’s a pub 10 minutes’ walk away and a couple more within two miles.

Please note that although this is an exclusive-use site it is not suitable for noisy parties – sorry, no stag or hen parties.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Everything. This instantly became our new favourite campsite. From the warm welcome, to the cutest little compost toilet, the hooting owls and apples as far as the eye can see, we felt so happy and comfortable here.

Absolutely perfect stay on this wonderful site. we stayed as a family of 9. Parents with two grown up children, their partners and our 3 grandchildren(age 9.7 and 6)

What a perfect location. A campsite all to ourselves. Our days and nights were filled with fun and laughter, and watching the little ones run free and a safe environment. Hours spent on the rope swing, sitting by the fire pit, laughing around the bbq, watching the little ones play with glo-sticks, a fish and chip supper, a cooked breakfast and a night of playing board games, a walk around the orchard and nature reserve all made this a holiday full of special, treasured times. The owners were so friendly, couldnt do enough for us. Even had a quick game of football when they called in to clean the toilet. Our trip included a very windy storm (40mph) winds which meant we all gave up on sleeping in the tents and squeezed in to our camper van for one night. The hosts were amazing checking on us in the morning and offering to take our wet clothes away to dry, and even ringing us at 9.30pm in the midst of the storm to check we were all safe and well. I cannot wait to go back for another visit, and am recommending this site to all of my friends. Perfect.

There is so much that we loved about this trip but I would say if we had have to pick a few:

    - The Location was excellent, plenty of local places to walk to and the field itself was a great size, completely private and backed on to an amazing apple orchard which was perfect for our dogs. The field was also completely secure so we could let our dogs wander around and we didn't need to worry about giving them their freedom.

    - The Facilities were great. We had everything we could possibly need. There was a cooking hut equipped with a gas stove, dining table, plates and cooking utensils, wood, coal, firelighters and even a complimentary home made cider take which was so delicious! There was also a BBQ, fire pit and toilet.

    - The hosts - we really can't thank Maggie and Penny enough. It was such a warm welcome from the both of them. They came to clean the camp at 10am every morning, brought us fire wood when we ran out - they even brought us a booze delivery in our time of need! They were both so attentive and made us feel so welcome.

    - Value for money - the field is so reasonably priced for what we received, it turned out to be cheaper than heading to a campsite yet we had out own private field!

We cannot wait to book another trip!

Great indoor space to prepare food and shelter from the rain. Lots of lovely touches like the fire pit, BBQ, chairs and tables and much much more! A beautiful setting, thoughtfully put together by very welcoming hosts. Being able to have the field to yourselves is amazing, there’s plenty of space we had four tents pitched comfortably. The compost loo is the nicest compost loo I’ve ever used and very clean. The cabin facility is a great touch, having somewhere to sit if it rains but also a space for cooking in. We were treated to a beautiful bouquet of flowers on arrival too, I don’t know many other campsites that do that!
